Citations authors’ names, referring

All the references for all the chapters in a given volume are collected together in a merged list at the end of that volume (where they are most easily located). There are no separate chapter bibliographies. In the final list, references are given both in code and in full conventional form, with authors names. They appear in an ordered sequence, numerically by year, then alphabetically by journal code, and then by page number. Cross references to the text citation are also given in the reference list. [Pg.5]

To locate a citation of a reference in the text, look for the author s name in the author index. The full reference can be found on the page number that appears in bold in the first column the reference number itself appears in italics in the second column and the page(s) of the text where the reference is cited appear in roman type in the. third column. [Pg.1305]

In the text of this book author name(s) and year are provided, but for references with three or more authors only the first author and et air is given. No initials are included in the citations within the text. For the (few) Ph. D. theses cited, the name of the supervisor is given at the end of the reference. [Pg.405]

The literature is covered through March 2009, supplementing the coverage used in the earlier hard cover chapter. These latest literature references have been collected in separate sections according to the sequence of the tables in the tabular survey section. In each of the sections, the individual citations have been arranged in alphabetic order of the author names. [Pg.983]

The third ACS-approved approach to citing the literature is to use authors last names and year of publication (author name, year). This format is relatively uncommon in ACS journals but is frequently used in journals of other scientihc disciplines, such as Ecology and Reviews of Modern Physics. With the author—date citation technique, the authors last names, followed by a comma, a space, and the year of publication are placed in parentheses (or brackets in some journals). Publications with three or more authors are referred to by the last name of the first author, followed by et ah, a comma, and the year. Multiple citations are separated by semicolons and listed in alphabetical order (by first author). [Pg.554]

The citation of references in text is a subject that varies widely from journal to journal and publisher to publisher. There are three ways to cite references in text in ACS publications superscript numbers, italic numbers in parentheses, or author name and year of publication. Authors are encouraged to check the... [Pg.30]

Include all author names in a reference citation. With multiple authors, separate the names from one another by semicolons. Always end the author field with a period (exception Biochemistry). List the names in inverted form surname first, then first initial, middle initial, and qualifiers (Jr., II). Some publications list the first 10 authors followed by a semicolon and et al. check the guidelines. [Pg.291]

Reference citations in the text should normally appear at the end of sentences. When authors names are mentioned in the text, et al. should be used if there are more than two authors. When the name of the senior author is used rather than that of the first-named author of the paper, the word co-workers should be used in place of et al. However, all authors names should be listed in the literature references, unless there are more than ten authors. [Pg.4]

Some foreign surnames follow a format different from the American system. Most people are aware that the Chinese use their surnames first, followed by their given names. For example, Sun Yat-sen s surname is Sun. However, the problem of identifying surnames extends to many other cultures. This multiplicity of usage can create problems in bibliographic indexes and in reference citations. A reference citation in a bibliography should always list the surname first, followed by first name or initials. In a byline, the author names should be presented in standard American format (given names first and surnames... [Pg.50]

Author names in references book citations, 188 organization as author, 198 periodical citations, 176— 177 U.S. government publications, 204 when to replace with editor name, 188, 189... [Pg.222]

The given citations listed beneath the compound name refer respectively to density data, Pc, Vc, and vapor pressure (where conversion from temperature to pressure is required). The citation A refers to a value by the author. [Pg.377]

Complete citations to references ate included. Authors names are stored in a separate record type. Reciprocal links connect authors and references. Provision for titles of articles. Chemical Abstract Services references, CODEN, ISSN or ISBN numbers are included. A field for storing comments to references is available. Codes that indicate if the reference contains theory, experimental data or correlation or has a review have been added with recent references. For recent references that contain experimental data, codes to indicate the particular properties measured are also included. This allows extraction of current content information. Prior to adding the data, the references containing experimental data can be linked to the compound or compounds and to the property code. Hence the database also serves as a bibliographic database. [Pg.457]

The CA file contains references from Chemical Abstracts (CA) since 1967. The information in the file can be divided into (1) bibliographic information, e.g., journal references, titles of articles, and author names (2) abstracts and (3) indexing information. All the information is searchable in separate fields. CA abstracts have been provided since 1970 and in addition there are a limited number of abstracts available prior to 1970. Documents from 124000 scientific publications are. selected for abstracting and indexing in CA. Every fortnight there are 15000 to 20000 new citations added to the file. [Pg.1971]

The word Ibid indicates to the reader that the source you are referring to is the same as the one that immediately precedes it—only the page number has changed. Never use the word Ibid in parenthetical citations simply list the author s name and page number in each reference. [Pg.105]

With In-text author-date citations, list references In alphabetical order by last name ofthe first author. [Pg.557]

Beneath each volume number and year there appear all of the references to that volume that are given in these tables. These references are given in exactly the same form as is used in Table I and are listed in the order of their page numbers. The reference "AA036-050V is the only one that appears underneath volume 36 of Analytica Chimica Acta it lists the author s name as B. Fleet, and consequently the full citation is B. Fleet, Anal. Chim. [Pg.703]

The names of authors and joint authors of chapters in the present book, and the page numbers at which these chapters begin, are printed in heavy type. Page numbers of bibliographical references as listed at the ends of the chapters are in italics and page numbers of citations in the text are in ordinary type. [Pg.181]

The reference citation for a journal article should include the name(s) of the author(s) the name of the journal the month, day, and year of publication volume and issue numbers and inclusive page numbers for the article. [Pg.85]

To cite more than one reference by the same principal author and various coauthors in one of the numerical citation systems, use the principal author s name followed by and co-workers or and colleagues . [Pg.289]

A number of periodicals (journals, magazines, newspapers) and periodically revised reference books are published in print and on CD-ROM as databases. These citations may contain the following author s name (if given), title of the work, publication information for the printed source, title of the database (underlined), publication medium (CD-ROM), name of the vendor (the supplier of the information), and electronic publication date. [Pg.404]

If you are citing a work with more than two authors, but fewer than six, list all last names in the first reference in subsequent references, use only the first author s last name and etal. (which means and others ). For six or more authors, use only the last name of the first author followed by et al. for all citations, including the first. [Pg.406]
