The general rule of thumb is that most tank facilities are subject to multiple authorities. When this is the case and the rules have ovedapping or even conflicting provisions, the facility must comply with all the requirements of the multiple authorities. In short, one authority s requirements does not preempt or even satisfy the requirements of the other agency even if they accomphsh exactiy the same thing. There are many examples of this type of inefficiency in regulations. [Pg.319]

ASM (1959) Magnetic Properties of Metals and Alloys (multiple authors, no editor) (American Society for Metals, Cleveland, Ohio). [Pg.147]

Again, this same format holds true for electronic sources. When listing an author or editor of an online article simply alphabetize his or her name (last name first, etc.). Use the same procedure for multiple authors or editors. After you have done this, list the title of the article you consulted (in quotation marks), the journal in which it was published (underline the title), and instead of the publishing company, list the website and the year the site was posted. In other words, your bibliographic citation should look like this ... [Pg.110]

The abbreviation et al. (from the Latin et alia) means and others. It is used to refer to a work that has multiple authors. Instead of referring to a work by writing out all of the authors names, writers use et al. after the surname of the first... [Pg.617]

This edition differs substantially from the first by the inclusion of many modem Name Reactions instead of sticking exclusively with the old, tried and true. There are many reactions not covered indeed, we ultimately eliminated those that had little contemporary use. We generally applied a rule of thumb that a newer name had to be cited by multiple authors. Therefore there are some relatively new protocols that have not stood the test of time however the breadth of recent use warranted inclusion. As for reagents, we have focused on both Name Reagents and those whose acronyms are often used in place of the actual name. We have noted the common use of these forms in current literature. [Pg.889]

During the 1950-60 time period, there was speculation that the ultraviolet sensitivity of animals was due to a secondary absorption band of retinol and retinal designated the p-band. More recent data does not show a good correlation between the peak spectral absorption in the UV band and the peak absorption for these two p-bands. In Section 17.3.3, the absorption in the lens due to these two p-bands is seen to occupy a distinctly different spectral region than that of the UV chromophoie in humans. If the absorption in the U V was due th the presence of these bands in the chromophores of the S-, M- or L-band photoreceptors, the measured sensitivity in the UV band should correlate with the measured sensitivity in at least one of these other bands. Multiple authors have performed these experiments. They have noted the lack of correlation between the UV sensitivity of their subjects and the state of adaptation of the subjects other spectral bands165. [Pg.97]

Brownfields can be cleaned up under any number of environmental laws, including the Federal Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERLCA, more commonly called Superfund) the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and a variety of state environmental protection laws that generally parallel the Federal laws. Some sites are regulated under multiple authorities. One example of the confusion of cleanup standards can be seen in the original Superfund regulations. Under Superfund, US EPA and the states determined cleanup standards for each site based on ARAlls, or laws and regulations that were... [Pg.335]

It is often said that all authors are responsible for the entire content of a manuscript. This is a meritorious ideal, but unrealistic. Most manuscripts have multiple authors, and very often, a single author is responsible for only a portion of the work being presented. For example, the manuscript may contain a crystal structure, determined by an expert crystallographer spectral data, determined by an expert spectroscopist kinetic data, determined by an expert kineticist etc. In cases such as this, a single author cannot be held responsible for all of the results presented. A more realistic assessment of what authorship implies is that each author should have read the manuscript carefully and understood the findings, but the technical responsibility is only for the area in which a given author... [Pg.6]

Include all author names in a reference citation. With multiple authors, separate the names from one another by semicolons. Always end the author field with a period (exception Biochemistry). List the names in inverted form surname first, then first initial, middle initial, and qualifiers (Jr., II). Some publications list the first 10 authors followed by a semicolon and et al. check the guidelines. [Pg.291]

Group all multiple-author (three or more) references last. List them chronologically. To distinguish among references having the same year, add a lowercase letter (a, b, c, etc.) to the year. [Pg.325]

The scope of literature search can be narrowed by repeated clicking in of keywords, including the author s last name. Indexing of the author s name also permits multiple authors. For instance, one may write the author s last name Bai in the blank space of the Author pulldown menu to retrieve all publications by Bai on FFB. You may also click Bai, enter, and then click Yu to retrieve all publications on FFB that were coauthored by Bai and Yu. [Pg.59]

Single, comprehensive reports by multiple authors of approximately equal scientific status are rare except where one individual carries much of the load or the report is broken down to identify separate parts by authorship. [Pg.17]

Multiple authors present a cross-disciplinary look at waste minimization. Topics covered include principles of dean production, profiting from pollution prevention, product lifecycle assessment, risk reduction and chemical control, economic policy and environmental assurance, and liability for the environment... [Pg.59]

With 30 chapters and multiple authors in this book, it is unavoidable that some minor duplication of coverage may occur. The comprehensiveness of each chapter will differ. Nevertheless, all authors are well-known researchers in their respective fields or have published extensively in the subject. I hope that cross-fertilization among the authors can help the growth of this scientific field. [Pg.1]

Although each of these chapters can be read as an individual standalone review of the topic being covered, there are themes which are picked up in multiple chapters which allow the readers to review key areas from multiple authors. [Pg.326]

We were very fortunate to be able to assemble an international team of distinguished scientists to contribute to this book. These are truly the experts in the field and in some cases the people who invented the techniques. They are scientists and educators with the uncommon ability to explain complex principles in a manner that is thorough but still easy to comprehend. Note that all chapters have multiple authors, illustrating the collaborative nature of this undertaking. We took our jobs as editors seriously by becoming intimately involved in every chapter, and we express our appreciation to each and every... [Pg.697]

The reference code, of up to eight characters, indicates the author(s) and year of publication. In the case of single-author papers the surname is tnincted to five characters (e.g. Henni78) while for multiple-author papers up to five initials are used (e.g. CIMPS87). Suffixes A, B etc. are used to remove ambiguities and do not connote any precedence. For the reasons stated above, not every reference in the database will appear in Table A. [Pg.263]

As in any book written by multiple authors, there may be some duplication of information or even minor contradiction in interpretation of various electrochemical phenomena and results from chapter to chapter. However, this has been kept to a minimum by the editors. Also, in the interest of making the book available in a reasonable time, it has not been possible to provide uniformity in the nomenclature and symbols from chapter to chapter we apologise for that. [Pg.430]
