Eu was implanted into a stainless steel foil ( Fe62Ni2 yCriK) at 400 keV and doses of (a) 1.2 x lO cm- and (b) 6 x 10 /cm-. respectively. Analysis of the Mossbaucr spectra for dose (a) led to the as.sumption of four phases the stainless steel matrix, a martensitic phase with a broad hyperfine field distribution, a magnetic phase with a well-defined hyperfine field of. 33.6 T and an oxide phase similar to FeO. The DCEMS analyses of the samples mentioned have demonstrated that thi.s type of Mdssbauer technique can be extremely valuable for the characterization and detcmiination of phases in inhomogeneous samples, typical in the implantation field. Recently, the group of Prof. Kankeleit at TU Darmstadt has examined the applicability of DCEMS as a general method of analysis in the field of material science. Two goals have been attained, thereby establishing DCEMS as a pt werful tool in fundamental and applied research. [Pg.364]

The latter contribute to the fluxes in time-varying conditions and provide source or sink terms in the presence of chemical reaction, but they have no influence on steady state diffusion or flow measurements in a non-reactive sys cem. [Pg.65]

Any errors that remain are of course my own responsibility. If you do find any, I would like to know 1 will also be pleased to receive any constructive suggestions, comments or criticisms. We plan to set up a web site that will provide access to various material from the book (such as electronic versions of the colour images) together with email contacts. Xk) is the inverse Hessian matrix of second derivatives, which, in the Newton-Raphson method, must therefore be inverted. This cem be computationally demanding for systems u ith many atoms and can also require a significant amount of storage. The Newton-Uaphson method is thus more suited to small molecules (usually less than 100 atoms or so). For a purely quadratic function the Newton-Raphson method finds the rniriimum in one step from any point on the surface, as we will now show for our function f x,y) =x + 2/. [Pg.285]

Search trees are widely used to represent the different states that a problem cem adopt, example is shown in Figure 9.4 from which it should be clear where the name deri especially if the page is turned upside down. A tree contains nodes that are connected edges. The presence of an edge indicates that the two nodes it connects ctre related in so way. Each node represents a state that the system may adopt. The root node represents initial state of the system. Terminal nodes have no child nodes. A goal node is a special k of terminal node that corresponds to Em acceptable solution to the problem. [Pg.477]

Composite-Based Laminates. Grade CEM-1 are laminates with continuous-filament glass cloth surfaces and a cellulose core, all with a flame-resistant epoxy resin binder. With good punching practice, sheets up to and including 2.4 mm (0.094 in.) in thickness may be punched at temperatures not less than 23°C (73°F). These laminates meet UL94 V-0 when tested in accordance with UL94. [Pg.537]

Continuous Emissions Monitoring. A key aspect of the new CAAA is the requirement that plants prove their continued compHance to new emissions limits by installing continuous emissions monitoring systems (CEMs). The CAAA imposes new requirements for monitoring NO, SO2, and CO2 levels in a plant s exhaust gas stream. Affected plants typically must gather data from stack monitoring systems, gas analyzers, and the plant s data acquisition system and provide the data in a format approved by the EPA and state regulators. CEM systems must be in place by November 1993 for boilers affected by Phase I of the CAAA, and byjanuary 1995 for plants impacted by Phase II. [Pg.92]

The mechanism of inhibition has not been characterized, but it is probably related to the ionophoretic properties of these antibiotics. Monensin has been shown to inhibit the intracellular transport of viral membrane proteins of cells infected with Semliki Forest vims (169). The formation of syncytia, normally observed when T-lymphoblastoid cell line (CEM) cells are cocultivated with human immunodeficiency vims (HlV-l)-infected T-ceU leukemia cell line (MOLT-3) cells, was significantly inhibited in the presence of monensin (170). This observation suggests that the viral glycoproteins in the treated cells were not transported to the cell surface from the Golgi membrane. [Pg.172]

CarbocycHc 2/3 -didehydro-2/3 -dideoxyguanosine [118353-05-2] (carbovk, CBV, 66), C H 2N502, synthesized in 1988 (177), is a promising candidate for the chemotherapy of AIDS. CBV inhibits HIV repHcation and HIV-induced cytopathic effects in a variety of human T-lymphoblastoid ceU lines at concentrations approximately two hundred- to four hundredfold below its cytotoxic concentrations (177). CBV is as effective as AZT and DDC in reducing the expression of vkal antigen in HIV-infected CEM ceUs (177). The antivkal potency and selectivity of carbovk is comparable to the anti-HIV-1 potency and selectivity of 2/3 -dideoxyadenosine (178). The exact mode of antivkal action of carbovk has not yet been elucidated, but may be the modulating effect of intraceUular nucleotides on 5 -nucleotidase activity (179). [Pg.314]

Commercially available fluorocarbon elastomers meet automotive specifications in the HK section of ASTM D2000 and SAE J-200. ASTM D1418 specifies designations of composition, eg, fluorocarbon elastomers are designated CEM, EKM, or EEKM. Commercially available fluorocarbon elastomers offer a balance of those properties needed to meet the major O-ring specifications, such as AMS 7276, AMS 7280A, AMS 7259, MIL 83248 Amendment 1 Type II, Class I and II. [Pg.514]

A significant problem area for initial SCR systems has been the continuous emission monitoring (CEM) systems. In power plants, all sites equipped with CEM systems report the highest failure frequency. The CEM systems are the most labor intensive component, requiring as much as hill-time attention from one technician. At one power plant CEM systems were responsible for 100% of 73 reported SCR system shutdowns (38). As CEM systems improve, these concerns may disappear. [Pg.511]

It has been suggested that the circulating load can be calculated by a material balance from size analyses of the feed, fine product, and coarse product of the classifier in a closed-circuit grinding system [Bond, Rock Prod., 41, 64 (January 1938)]. However, since size analyses are subject to error, it is better to use this information to check the size analyses (Vaillant, op. cit.). The appropriate equation is (Dahl, Classifier Test Manual, Portland Cem. Assoc. BuU. MRB-53, 1954)... [Pg.1836]

The term Csm/Cr (the ratio of the logarithmic mean concentration of the insoluble component to the total concentration) is introduced because hD(CBm/Cr) is less dependent than hD on the concentrations of the components. This reflects the fact that the analogy between momentum, heat and mass transfer relates only to that part of the mass transfer which is not associated with the bulk flow mechanism this is a fraction Cum/Cr of the total mass transfer. For equimolecular counterdiffusion, as in binary distillation when the molar latent heats of the components are equal, the term Cem/Cj- is omitted as there is no bulk flow contributing to the mass transfer. [Pg.648]

The biberty (Fig. 10), a monomode microwave reactor for automated SPPS, was recently introduced by the CEM Corporation [153]. Although this instrument was originally developed for SPPS, it also allows for a broader scale of solid-phase applications. The solid-phase vial is equipped with a polypropylene frit and cap at one end (the entire assembly fitting into the standard 10 mb CEM reaction vessel) to allow the processing of 0.1 to 1.0 mmol quantities of resin attached substrates. An integrated fiber optic probe provides... [Pg.91]
