Image colour

The recorded digital image is processed by a PC computer. Typical operations are image magnification, contrast stretcliing and false colouring, image substraction or addition, determination and evaluation of profiles. 

Any errors that remain are of course my own responsibility. If you do find any, I would like to know 1 will also be pleased to receive any constructive suggestions, comments or criticisms. We plan to set up a web site that will provide access to various material from the book (such as electronic versions of the colour images) together with email contacts. The ink jet printing of coloured images is a subtractive process and requires a YMC trichromat as in colour photography. Some of the properties required in the dyes are listed below. 

Ability to get a native colour image without using any chemicals that can damage the cell and are often expensive... 

In a modification of the process the sensitized layers are arranged as before but nonwandering couplers are incorporated into the respective layers during manufacture of the film. This means that, after the hydroquinone development has been carried out, the differently coloured images can be formed in one common developer solution. Silver and silver halide are removed as previously. 

The dye bleach process relies on the destruction of a uniformly dispersed dye in areas where exposure occurs. This results in a direct positive coloured image. The bleaching is...

In some processes, there is a need to immobilize dyes, either temporarily as in the case of filter and antihalation devices or permanently as for the images in colour image transfer processes. Because the dyes normally used in these applications contain acid functional groups, the corresponding mordants are basic in nature and are usually polymeric. Polyvinyl-pyridines have utility as mordants. Other useful compounds are illustrated by the pyridinium salt (95) (49USP2484430), the morpholinium salt (96) (72BRP1245952) and the imidazole (97) (72GEP2150136). 

Most of the present thermographic papers are of the chemical type, wherein an irreversible reaction takes place on heating, forming a coloured image. A typical material employs two reagents which at normal temperatures do not come into physical contact with each other. On application of heat, however, at least one of the chemicals melts and a colour forming reaction takes place.
