Gentamicin Ceftazidime

A 37-year-old Asian man received several antibiotics (including intravenous ceftazidime, gentamicin, merope-nem, metronidazole, and vancomycin) postoperatively. After 3 weeks he was given alatrofloxacin 75 mg in 25 ml of dextrose 5% (1.875 mg/ml) and developed generalized clonus. On rechallenge, infusing at half the initial rate, the seizure recurred. A CT scan of the brain was normal. [Pg.46]

The nephrotoxicity of various combinations of antibiotics was assessed in 171 cancer palienls. In Ihose receiving an aminoglycoside with a third generation cephalosporin, the most nephrotoxic combinations were found to be gentamicin with cefotaxime (although another study did not find this combination to be nephrotoxic ) and amikacin with ceftriaxone, where 5 of 20 and 5 of 13 patients, respectively, had increased serum creatinine. The following combinations were found to be safer amikacin with cefoxitin or ceftazidime, gentamicin with cefoxitin, and netilmicin with cefotaxime. ... [Pg.286]

Because human cases of glanders are rare, there is limited information shout antibiotic treatment of the organism in humans. Sulfadiazine has been found to be an effective in experimental animals and in humans SutfMderiente/fer is usually sensitive to tetracyclines, ciproflacacin, streptomycin, novobiocin, gentamicin, imipenem, ceftazidime, and the sulfonamides Resistance to chloramphenicol has been reported. [Pg.385]

Warfarin sodium may be adsorbed to PVC and intravenous infusion sets but may be minimized with glass containers or polyethylene-lined containers. Warfarin sodium is incompatible with solutions of adrenaline hydrochloride, amikacin sulfate, metaraminol tartrate, oxytocin, promazine hydrochloride, tetracycline hydrochloride, aminophylline, bretylium tosylate, ceftazidime, cimetidine hydrochloride, ciprofloxacin lactate, dobutamine hydrochloride, esmolol hydrochloride, gentamicin sulfate, labetalol hydrochloride, metronidazole hydrochloride, and vancomycin hydrochloride.130131... [Pg.350]

Retinal damage in the farm of macular inferction has occurred after intravitreal administration of gentamicin. Because amikacin is less toxic when injected intravitreally, the current recommendation far treatment of postoperative endophthalmitis is intravitreal amikacin (or ceftazidime) for gram-negative coverage. [Pg.189]

For Escherichia coli give cefotaxime or ceftazidime perhaps with gentamicin. For Group B streptococci give benzylpenicillin plus gentamicin. Consult a specialist text for details of doses for neonates. [Pg.244]

Various antibiotics, including azlocillin, aztreonam, cefur-oxime, ceftazidime, chloramphenicol, colistin, flucloxacil-lin, gentamicin, imipenem, meropenem, piperacillin, tazobactam, temocillin, and ticarcillin, were incubated with this patient s serum. Only piperacillin and piperacillin -I- tazobactam caused agglutination in an indirect agglutination test. The authors concluded that the hemolytic anemia had been caused by piperacillin. [Pg.2758]

A 36-year-old white woman with relapsing acute myeloid leukemia took ceftazidime (2 g tds) and aciclovir for febrile neutropenia and Herpes labialis. She developed an itchy rash and treatment was changed to imi-penem (500 mg qds for 5 days), vancomycin (1 g bd for 3 days), and gentamicin (2 mg/kg for 3 days) chemotherapy included idambicin, cytarabine, etoposide, ondansetron, and dexamethasone for 3 days. Within a few days the rash developed into blisters and erosions, affecting more than 80% of the skin. The diagnosis was confirmed histologically, and she subsequently died from shock (70). [Pg.3598]

In the case of infected eyes, Ben-Nun et al. demonstrated that the elimination rate of intravitreally injected gentamicin was greater in infected than normal eyes, attributed to alteration in blood-retinal barrier (255). The vitreal half-lives of ceftizoxime, ceftriaxone, ceftazidime, and cefepime in rabbits ranged from 5.7 to 20 hours in rabbits with uninflamed eyes and from 9.4 to 21.5 hours in rabbits with infected eyes (256). [Pg.140]

Neutropenic patients—For suspected bacteremia in neutropenic patients, ceftazidime, imipenem, meropenem, or cefepime, each alone or in more seriously ill patients with an aminoglycoside (gentamicin, tobramycin or amikacin), would be a reasonable first choice. [Pg.75]
