Table 3.3 summarizes the history of the development of wave-profile measurement devices as they have developed since the early period. Since we are particularly interested in analyzing situations where y is related to product or process quality, it is quite common to find systems where a categorical variable y is chosen to classify and evaluate their performance. Bipolar disorders have been categorized into bipolar I disorder, bipolar II disorder, and bipolar disorder, not otherwise specified (NOS).
