Natural mbber latex is also used in adhesives for tape, packaging, envelopes, and in the footwear industry. It is used in the carpet industry as a binder for backing compounds, but this is another area in which synthetic SBR latex has competed effectively. There are a number of relatively small and specialized appHcations for natural mbber latex including mbberized coir or hair and cast products such as toys. The new continuous casting processes, in contrast to ingot cast products, provide tin mill products which are exceptionally clean and formable. The deoxidizing processes required for continuous casting involve either aluminum or silicon killing, which adds aluminum or silicon to the steel. Experience with type D steels indicates that the added aluminum will not cause a corrosion problem. Laubscher and Weyandt (18) have shown that the silicon found in silicon killed, continuous cast, heavily coated ETP will not adversely affect the corrosion performance of plain cans packed with mildly acid food products in which tin usually protects steel. The metal casting industry conventionally divides casting products into ferrous and nonferrous metals, in particular, iron-based, steel-based, aluminum-based, and copper-based castings. The final quality of a cast metal product is broadly dependent upon any factors which will have an effect on the metal solidification. The mechanical properties of the casting will largely be determined by the cast structure. Any structural defects occurring in the cast product may be transferred to the final product. The carbon dioxide released will form bubbles throughout the cast product, forming a spongy instead of solid material, thus detracting from the properties of the polyurethane.
