BS 3424 also has a simple towed sled method which is very briefly described such that there is too little control of apparatus parameters for it to be adequate for more general or accurate work. The drive linkage is not specified in detail and some apparatus in use would lack stiffness. A better text for a towed sled is given in the international, British and European standard for plastics film40 which recognises the importance of parameters such as stiffness of the drive. [Pg.226]

As most lime products are used within 300 km of the producer, many countries have their own standards for sampling, sample preparation and testing. This chapter refers mainly to British and European Standards to illustrate the principles and procedures involved. In other geographical areas, the reader should refer to the most relevant national or international standards. [Pg.199]

In the following sections, reference is made to the relevant British and European Standards in other geographical regions, the reader should also refer to the relevant national or international standards. [Pg.244]

Messrs. A.S. Anthony and E Leitch of the British Lime Association and Dr. B. Oppermann and Mr. N. Peschen of the Bundesverband der Deutschen Kalk-industrie provided invaluable assistance with general information and contacts. Messrs A.R. Mears and B. Feldmann of the British Standards Institution helped to ensure that I was fully informed of recent developments in British and European Standards. [Pg.465]

The purpose in harmonizing British and European Standards is to help develop a single European market economy so that there are no trade barriers to electrical goods and services across the European Economic Area. [Pg.13]

The aim of the visual inspection is to confirm that all equipment and accessories are undamaged and comply with the relevant British and European Standards, and also that the installation has been securely and correctly erected. [Pg.39]

Some British Standard numbers are written as BS EN followed by a number. This means that the British Standard is in harmony or agreement with the European Standards. These standards apply to all countries in the EEC, for example BS EN 60898 1991 is the British and European Standard for miniature and moulded case circuit breakers which were issued in 1991. [Pg.279]

The Index of Protection is a code which gives us a means of specifying the suitability of equipment for the environmental conditions in which it will be used. The tests to be carried out for the various degrees of protection are given in the British and European Standard BS EN 60529. [Pg.279]

There are many sources of health and safety information which may need be consulted before an accurate communication can be made. These include regulations, judgements, approved codes of practice, guidance, British and European standards, periodicals, case studies and HSE publications. [Pg.62]

The first chapter of this book included basic definitions relating to the management of safety. There is a wide range and some diversity of terminology contained within British and European standards and HSE and industry guidance. The following definitions, drawn from the standards and guidance, are used in this book. [Pg.84]
