Binder anionic

The standard NF T 65-011 distinguishes the bitumen emulsions by their ionic nature (anionic or cationic), their stability with respect to agglomerates and weight content of base binder. There are 20 grades of emulsions. [Pg.288]

Acrylamide copolymers are effective iron ore pellet binders (118). When the ore slurry in water has a pH above 8, anionic polymers are effective. If the ore is acid washed to remove manganese, then a cationic polymer is effective. [Pg.143]

In the manufacture of coating materials, paints, varnishes, lacquers, dyestuff pigments, binding materials, and binders, surfactants are of great importance. Most of the systems used in these fields are dispersed. Therefore surfactants can accelerate the preparations of dispersions and improve their stability. For rewetting processes, like the so-called flush process, besides other anionic surfactants sulfosuccinates are also used. [Pg.534]

The stabilizing of aqueous latexes succeeded by using emulsifiers (anionic, nonionic) and/or their mixture, steric stabilizators (polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH), hydroxyethyl cellulose, polyethylene glycol, new protective colloids etc.), and polymerizable surfaces active agents, in general. Vinyl acetate (VAc) emulsion homopolymers and copolymers (latexes) are widely used as binders in water-based interior and exterior architectural paints, coatings, and adhesives, since they have higher mechanical and water resistance properties than the homopolymers of both monomers [2, 4, 7]. [Pg.406]

Using this technique, substantivity (Table 7) was assessed using a negatively charged vinyl substrate that is often used to simulate skin (the anionic UCARMAG Binder 527 resin). Fluorescein, sodium salt, at 0.5% in water was added before and/or after a 0.9% saline wash (2 X 25 mL) step. If added later, then samples were rewashed to determine whether any substantive coating remained. [Pg.229]

Anion-radicals of compounds with the azo and diphosphene central bonds (R N=NR and Rip=PR ) have three n electrons between two nitrogen or phosphorus atoms (Stagko et al. 1998, Binder et al. 1996, Shah et al. 1997). [Pg.156]

Process pH, sodium, calcium, and nitrate concentrations, plugging of the ion exchange column, lot variance, and the presence of binders can affect process efficiency. lonsiv IE-911 does not remove anionic radioactive ions such as technetium. The resins are designed for one-time use and must be replaced when loaded. The waste acceptance criteria at the resin disposal facility may limit the loading of the CST resin. Size constraints of the cesium removal system (CRS) may limit system flow rates. [Pg.1102]

In conclusion, it is evident from the above discussion that anionic polymerization has emerged from a laboratory curiosity to an important industrial process in a relatively short span of time. Currently, over a million tons of polymers are produced by the anionic route in about twenty manufacturing plants around the world. We at Phillips are quite proud of being one of the pioneers along with Firestone and Shell in harnessing this new technology to commercial applications. The fact that our polymers find such wide ranging applications from tire treads to injection molded blood filters and from lubricant additives to solid rocket binders bears ready testimony to this. [Pg.404]

Active anticorrosive pigments inhibit one or both of the two electrochemical partial reactions. The protective action is located at the interface between the substrate and the primer. Water that has diffused into the binder dissolves soluble anticorrosive components (e.g., phosphate, borate, or organic anions) out of the pigments and transports them to the metal surface where they react and stop corrosion. The oxide film already present on the iron is thereby strengthened and sometimes chemically modified. Any damaged areas are repaired with the aid of the active substance. Inhibition by formation of a protective film is the most important mode of action of the commoner anticorrosive pigments. [Pg.193]

Oxaazamacrocycles are molecules with combined crown ether and amino group properties for example, in dependence on the size of macrocyclic ring and the position of heteroatoms stable complexes with various metals can be formed [32]. Furthermore, when protonated, these compounds are excellent anion binders. In fully protonated polyammonium macrocycles, the coulom-bic attractions and hydrogen bond formation play a dominant role in the anion complexation. The receptors (R,R)-5 and (S,S,S,S)-6 were designed to bind dicarboxylates [33]. [Pg.37]

The bicyclic guanidinium tetramer 43 was first reported as a possible binder for helical oligonucleotides. Initial studies with 43 and sulfate anions showed that the tetramer formed double-helical dimers around sulfate counterions [69]. Despite the initial proposal of using this receptor for membrane transport of oligonucleotides, all subsequent work on 43 has been conducted on helical peptides. For example, the binding of 43 with several synthetic peptides caused an increase in the helicity and helical stability of the peptides in 10% water/methanol [70]. The peptide containing four Asp derivatives showed the... [Pg.221]

Anionic starches are obtained by reaction with phosphoric acid and alkali metal phosphates or by derivatization with carboxymethyl groups.30,31 This modification is primarily used to introduce amphoteric properties into cationic com starch for application on the wet end of the paper machine. Anionic starches with carboxymethyl substitution are used as thickeners in coating colors or as binders in coatings for specialty paper grades. Oxidized starches are inherently anionic but without thickening action. Potato starch already carries sufficient natural anionic charge to provide amphoteric properties after cationization.32... [Pg.664]
