Binding materials

There is sufficient biological binding material to yield a good signal-to-noise ratio but not too much so as to cause depletion of the tracer ligand. [Pg.71]

In the manufacture of coating materials, paints, varnishes, lacquers, dyestuff pigments, binding materials, and binders, surfactants are of great importance. Most of the systems used in these fields are dispersed. Therefore surfactants can accelerate the preparations of dispersions and improve their stability. For rewetting processes, like the so-called flush process, besides other anionic surfactants sulfosuccinates are also used. [Pg.534]

Aspartic acid has been identified as an iron-binding material in instant coffee, and was found to be approximately 0.4% of the instant coffee by diy weight.85... [Pg.139]

Practically all the inorganic building cements, such as mud, lime, and gypsum cement, are prepared as mixtures of at least three components a binder, a filler, and a medium, the latter always water. The binder (or binding material) is a substance that acts cohesively, adheres to surfaces and, when... [Pg.167]

To overcome these disadvantages, a thin-film CL technique was invented, which remains the most commonly used method in PEM fuel cells. Thin-film catalyst layers were initially used in the early 1990s by Los Alamos National Laboratory [6], Ballard, and Johnson-Matthey [7,8]. A thin-film catalyst layer is prepared from catalyst ink, consisting of uniformly distributed ionomer and catalyst. In these thin-film catalyst layers, the binding material is not PTFE but rather hydrophilic Nafion ionomer, which also provides proton conductive paths for the electrochemical reactions. It has been found that the presence of hydrophobic PTFE in thin catalyst layers was not beneficial to fuel cell performance [9]. [Pg.65]

The adsorbent typically consists of the selectively adsorbing zeoHte and a binder. The binding material is required to make parHcles of the zeoHtes of a large enough size to allow for practical use in a commercial appHcation. The particle formation method and resulting characteristics of the binder/zeoHte combinaHon is of criHcal importance, especially as it relates to mass transfer through the particle and the characteristics of the zeoHte [30]. The practical aspects of forming and... [Pg.238]

Different horticultural items made of biodegradable polymers, such as plant pots, seed/fertilizer tape and binding materials, foams and nets for erosion control, offer reduction of system complexity by reducing the number of work steps. [Pg.129]

A transition step between the reaction system just considered (silver ions, p-phenylenediamine, silver sol) and actual physical development of a fixed photographic plate or film is supplied by the investigations of Arens (27, 28). He used a series of silver, gold, and silver sulfide sols which had been coated on glass plates, using gelatin as the binding material. In this way he obtained plates in which colloidal particles... [Pg.119]

The illuminating composition consisted of 1 part powdered Al, Mg or Mg-Al alloy, mixed with 2 parts of oxidizing material such as Ba(N03)2, NaN03, KN03 and KC103. Shellac or linseed oil was used as a binding material oil reduced the... [Pg.296]

When these inclusions are associated with organic matter (which acts as binding material of the carbonate grains and amounts to 5-15% of the rock), they produce clear halos (Figure 6a-d). [Pg.132]
