Guide pin

Main portion of the mold containing the molding cavity, mold pins, guide pins, etc. 

Backing plate Also called support plate, it serves to back up cavity blocks, guide pins, bushings, etc. 

A similar incident occurred on a solids drier. Before maintenance started, the end cover was removed, and the inlet line was disconnected. When maintenance was complete, the end cover was replaced, and at the same time the inlet pipe was reconnected. The final job was to cut off the guide pins on the cover with a cutting disc. The atmosphere outside (but not inside) the drier was tested, and no flammable gas was detected. While cutting was in progress, an explosion occurred in the drier. Some solvent had leaked into the inlet pipe and then drained into the drier [19]. 

The inlet line should not have been reconnected before the guide pins were cut off.

Put the separator in place, fix its position with guide pins and fasten it rigidly. 

Place the motor on the base blocks and push it into correct position, fitting the pins of the coupling pulley into the holes in the elastic plate. Fix the position of the motor with the guide pins and fasten it with screws. 

Put in the distributing cone C50 so that the bore mark provided in one of its wings is right in front of the guide lug of the bowl body. The guide pins bn the underside of the cone will then enter the recesses in the sliding bowl bottom. 

Place distributor C12 in the bowl body so that the guide lug of the bowl body is right between the bore marks in two of the distributor ribs. The recesses on the lower side of tne distributor will then fit over the guide pins of the distributing cone.

Install the Slider Guide Pin through the bottom of the Fuze Body. Note that... 

Insert Slider, aligning the slot on the bottom with the Slider Guide Pin. Install Slider Spring and Slider Plug.

To achieve accurate dimensions in the finished part, the mold cores must be aligned accurately with the cavities. Mold halves have large guide pins in the corners to assure alignment. 

ASTM D732 [53] follows the same pattern as Method A above, but permits any thickness between 0.125 mm and 12.5 mm to be tested, and the test piece is drilled centrally to locate a guide pin on the punch.
