Appropriate placement can be assessed quantitatively using the grand composite curve. The streams associated with the reactor can be represented as a grand composite curve for the reactor and then matched against the grand composite curve for the rest of the process.

Equation (1) can be viewed in an over-simplistic manner and it might be assumed that it would be relatively easy to calculate the retention volume of a solute from the distribution coefficient, which, in turn, could be calculated from a knowledge of the standard enthalpy and standard entropy of distribution. Unfortunately, these properties of a distribution system are bulk properties. They represent, in a single measurement, the net effect of a large number of different types of molecular interactions which, individually, are almost impossible to separately identify and assess quantitatively. 

The orientation of crystallites in PET fibers can also be assessed quantitatively by means of IR spectro-graphic examination. Other features of an analytical method that should be borne in mind are its linear range, which should be as large as possible to allow samples containing a wide range of analyte concentrations to be analysed without further manipulation, and its precision and accuracy. Method development and validation require all of these parameters to be studied and assessed quantitatively. 

The comparison of experimental data on determination of concentrations of H- and O-atoms in the gas volume or on the surface using semiconductor ZnO films given in this Section with results of calculations based on the formulas derived in Chapter 2 we can conclude that even extremely small concentrations of active particles (10 to 10 m ) can be assessed quantitatively by sensors both in the gaseous phase and on the surface of solid bodies (see below). 

In the case of drug response data, however, the phenotypes of interest will normally be quantitative as opposed to the discrete case-control distinction that has often been used in disease studies. For example, severity of side effects and efficacy can often be assessed quantitatively.

This approach has the merit of providing a reasonably simple explanation of the signs of the different contributions, and also makes it clear that the observed optical activity arises from a balance of several factors. The determination of hydrocarbon contaminants in soil is one of the most frequently performed analyses in the study of contaminated sites and is also one of the least standardized. Given the wide variety of hydrocarbon contaminants that can potentially enter and exist in the soil environment, a need exists for methods that quantify these chemicals satisfactorily. Formerly, the idea of total hydrocarbon determination in soil was seen as providing a satisfactory tool for assessing contaminated sites, but the nature of the method and the site specificity dictate a risk-based approach in data assessment. Quantitation of particular hydrocarbon species may be required. 

If a standard form was used in the qualification phase, a system should exist to rank the respondents that are being considered. Such a system can be as simple as the reviewers making a written recommendation summarizing the strong points of their selections. Some companies have developed forms that allow the final scores to be quantified. Appendix C, Sample Toller Assessment—Quantitative Format contains such an example. With either method, the client should consider having two or more reviewers discuss the candidates and agree on the recommended finalists.
