The Hungarian Academy of Sciences elected him in 1951 to be a corresponding member, and, in 1964, to full membership. A further international recognition of Vargha as a carbohydrate chemist ensued in 1965, when he was invited to serve as a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the newly established international journal Carbohydrate Research. [Pg.8]

Another step in QCPE s history occurred in 1984 when Professor Ernest R. Davidson was invited to move his group to IUB from the University of Washington, Seattle. Ernie Davidson replaced Stan Hagstrom as faculty advisor. Mr. Counts and Dr. Edwards continued to manage the day-to-day operations. To provide new viewpoints, the membership of the QCPE Advisory Board was... [Pg.333]

Hirst s scientific contributions extended far beyond the United Kingdom. Many will know of his membership of the Editorial Advisory Boards of Advances in Carbohydrate Chemistry, of Carbohydrate Research (which published a special issue in July, 1968, to honor his 70th birthday2), and—a special interest—of the encyclopedic Rodd s Chemistry of Carbon Compounds. For many years, he was a member of the American and Swiss Chemical Societies from 1959, he was an Honorary Member ofthe Polish Chemical Society and, in 1967, he was elected an Honorary Member of the Royal Irish Academy. [Pg.14]

Sumio Umezawa served on many committees of academic societies and the Japanese Ministry of Education. He was president of the Society of Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Japan(1964), served as Vice-President (1965-1966) and President (1980-1981) of the Chemical Society of Japan, and was given honorary membership by the Society in 1981. He was a member of the Editorial Board (1953-1990) and emeritus member (1991-2000) of the Journal of Antibiotics. He was also a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Carbohydrate Research (1974-1990). He was an expert member of the Science Technology Council to the Cabinet and an expert member of the University Establishment Council at the Ministry of Education. He served as vice-president (1972-1994) and president (1994-2000) of the Microbial Chemistry Research Formdation and as a councilor of many societies, including the Japan Antibiotics Research Association (Tokyo) (1948-1995) and the Japan Chemotherapy Research Association (Tokyo) (1959-2000). [Pg.16]

Consortium. The membership also discussed confidentiality issues and requirements for communication. Advisory Board Meetings via conference call were to occur every quarter with an annual face-to-face meeting that would also include a lab tour of the facilities. The NOSH Consortium Advisory Board included a representative from each company contributing funding to the consortium as well as from non-contributing strategic members. The other product of this meeting was the definition of the roles and responsibilities of the Advisory Board as detailed in Table 6.6 and its interaction with the technical team. [Pg.193]

As seen in Table 6.13 with the April 2, 2007 Advisory Board Meeting dedicated to Phase 2 topic discussions, the majority of the NOSH Consortium membership agreed to extend the scope of many of the objectives from the initial proposal based upon experimental results collected during the 18-month study. The additional experimental work was defined and work began on these objectives in July 2007 under Phase 2 of the NOSH Consortium. The objectives for Phase 2 are targeted for completion in October 2007 and are outlined in Table 6.14. [Pg.231]

The visibility of CUR to agencies and foundations has led to increased representation by undergraduate institution science faculty on important policy-m ng and fun ng committees. These have included advisory committees and review panels for the National Science Foundation, panel members for the National Institutes of Health, membership on the National Research Council s Board on Chemical Sciences and Technology, membership on advisory panels for private foundations, and service on toards of foundations and other scientific societies. The changes in these activities over the 12-year history of CUR have been enormous. [Pg.24]
