Activation apparent

In this section, we demonstrate the real ORR activities (apparent rate constant per real active surface area, fe pp) and P(H202) at bulk Pt and nanosized Pt catalysts dispersed on carbon black (Pt/CB) with dp,= 1.6 + 0.4, 2.6 + 0.7, and 4.8 1.0 nm in the practical temperature range 30-110 °C [Yano et al., 2006b]. The use of a channel flow double-electrode (CFDE) cell allowed us to evaluate fe pp and P(H202) precisely. [Pg.331]

Of the four markers just mentioned, the expression of P-selectin on the activated platelets is the most widely studied. However, CD62P may not be the ideal marker for detection of circulating degranulated platelets, because they may rapidly lose their surface P-selectin but yet may continue to function. The decrease in the platelet surface expression of the GPIb-IX-V complex (CD42) perhaps represents a more sensitive marker of in vivo platelet activation. Apparently platelet activation related to strenuous exercise is more readily detected using CD42 than other markers (99). [Pg.157]

CNS activity apparently is retained when the heterocycle is changed to an imidazolidinone. Alkylation of the anion from the imidazolidinone 138 with dimethylaminoethyl chloride affords imidoline (139), a compound with tranquilizer activity. [Pg.259]

Johnson et al.67 studied CO hydrogenation on bimetallic catalysts consisting of cobalt overlayers on W (100) and (110) single crystals at 200°C, 1 bar at a H2/ CO ratio of 2. AES spectra showed the postreaction Co/W surfaces to have high coverages of both carbon and oxygen, with carbon line shapes characteristic of bulk carbidic carbon.67 The catalytic activity apparently could not be correlated with surface carbon level.67... [Pg.61]

The pharmacology of benoxaprofen (2-[4-chlorophynl]-a-methyl-5-benzoxazole acetic acid), LRCL 3794, a new compound with anti-inflammatory activity apparently unrelated to inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. Formaldehyde generated from nitromethane was found only in trace amounts after incubation with microsomes from from Fischer 344 rat liver, but none was found after incubation with rat nasal microsomes (Dahl Hadley, 1983). Nitromethane inhibited rabbit liver cytochrome P450 activity, apparently competing for the same ferrohaemo-chrome-binding sites as carbon monoxide (Wade et al, 1977). [Pg.493]

Phospholipid vesicles (and bilayers) composed of phospholipids with well-defined fatty acid side chains undergo a sharp transition from a crystallinelike state to an amorphous state as the temperature is raised.107 The transition temperature depends on the nature of the fatty acid side chains. For example, for C12 saturated fatty acid chains on lecithin the transition temperature is 0° and for C18 saturated fatty acid chains it is 58°C for unsaturated lecithins the transition temperature is below zero.107 For real membranes sharp phase transitions are not observed, because of the heterogeneous composition of the membrane. In the case of /3 hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase, the enzymic activity apparently is not influenced by this phase transition as judged by the temperature dependence of the reaction rate. However, for some membrane-bound proteins, a plot of the reaction rate versus the reciprocal temperature... [Pg.204]

Catalase activity apparently dependent upon a metabolite, probably the 4-OH derivative (blocked in 4-Me-pyrazole). Activity of 4-NH2 derivative suggests the need for an acidic hydrogen in the 4 -position... [Pg.137]

Inactive MoFe protein may also be isolated from the nitrogenase of nif B mutants of K. pneumoniae.14 4 Addition of FeMoco results in activation up to 40% of normal activity, apparently because only one mol of FeMoco could be added. The nif B preparation appeared to contain one atom of non-FeMoco Mo, and so formed the MoFe protein with two Mo but only one FeMoco. This suggests that the two FeMoco sites in wild-type MoFe protein operate independently.1485 The schematic representation of nitrogenase shown in Figure 72 thus contains two peptides, two P clusters and one FeMoco group. [Pg.721]

The turnover numbers and activation energies for methanation over all four metals freshly reduced and under sulfur-free conditions (Table XVI) were in good agreement with values reported for supported metal catalysts (220). At 673 K, Ni and Ru exhibited only very slow losses in activity apparently due to slow carbon deposition, whereas Co and Fe underwent rapid, severe carbon deactivation after maintaining their fresh catalyst activity for a few hours. After rapid deactivation the final steady-state activity, which was about 100-fold lower than the activity of the fresh catalyst, was approached slowly this activity region was referred to as the lower pseudosteady state. Likewise, the fresh catalyst behavior was referred to as the upper pseudo-... [Pg.202]

Studies on the hydrolysis of graft-modified cellulose have shown that the contant of the water-soluble fraction in this polymer increases with swelling during activation, apparently due to the decrease in the number of hydrogen bonds. Grafting to non-activated... [Pg.142]

Various materials have been incorporated into the preparation of the catalysts to lower the metal s intrinsic activity.Lindlar s treatment of palladium deposited on CaCOs with Pb(OAc)2 lowers its activity, apparently by affecting the morphology of the metal. Unfortunately, Lindlar s recommendation that quinoline be used with his catalyst is sometimes overlooked, which may account for some of the poorer selectivities reported when its use is not mentioned. [Pg.431]

Pumiliotoxins proved to have cardiotonic and myotonic activity apparently due to stimulatory effects on the sodium-channel operation. PTX B (323A), Fig. (17), apparently binds to a unique site on the voltage-dependent sodium-chaimel, causing an inhibition of channel inactivation in neuromuscular preparation [31]. A radioligand has not been developed and further research on the potential of such alkaloids as cardiotonic and myotonic agents is necessary [16]. [Pg.249]

Raney copper is prepared from the commercially available copper aluminum alloy. It does not have much to offer the synthetic chemist as only a few reactions are reported to be affected by this catalyst. Raney copper, as well as Raney cobalt, generally produces fewer side reactions than Raney nickel even though they usually require higher reaction temperatures for the same reaction. Raney copper is, however, quite usefiil for the selective hydrogenation of substituted dinitro benzenes (Eqn. 8.6) with its activity apparently increasing with continued reuse. Raney copper can also be used for the catalytic hydrolysis of hindered nitriles to the amides (Eqn. 12.13). "2... [Pg.249]

We found ourselves in a quandary Broad (2003) quite rightly faults universalized, de-contextualized rubrics used nationwide for assessment projects, but our own community had a tradition of assessment using a rubric that had been drawn from our local course outcomes. Was this homegrown rubric subject to the same critiques To add another wrinkle the results of past assessment activity apparently had not been particularly interpretable by external audiences (aside from supporting assertions that assessment activity has been taking place ). [Pg.58]

The sediments deposited in this possible oil shale lake began being deposited about the same time as the earliest deposition in Wyoming and in Colorado, elastics from Uinta Mountain activity apparently destroyed the Utah lake, but oil shale deposition returned to Utah when Colorado s Lake Uinta expanded during the time of deposition of the Mahogany zone (8). [Pg.234]

During the inhibited self-initiated autoxidation of methyl linoleate by a-Toc in solution, Niki and coworkers made the interesting observation that a-Toc acts as an antioxidant at low concentrations, but high concentrations (up to 18.3 mM) actually increased hydroperoxide formation due to a pro-oxidant effect. The pro-oxidant effect of a-Toc was observed earlier by Cillard and coworkers in aqueous micellar systems and they found that the presence of co-antioxidants such as cysteine, BHT, hydroquinone or ascor-byl palmitate inverted the reaction into antioxidant activity, apparently by reduction of a-To" to a-Toc . Liu and coworkers ° found that a mixture of linoleic acid and linoleate hydroperoxides and a-Toc in SDS micelles exhibited oxygen uptake after the addition of a-Toc. The typical ESR spectrum of the a-To" radical was observed from the mixture. They attributed the rapid oxidation to decomposition of linoleate hydroperoxides, resulting in the formation of linoleate oxy radicals which initiated reactions on the lipid in the high concentration of the micellar micro-environment. Niki and coworkers reported pro-oxidant activity of a-Toc when it was added with metal ions, Fe3+25i Qj. jjj (jjg oxidation of phosphatidyl choline liposomes. a-Toc was found... [Pg.892]
