Apparent activation of enzyme

In Table 5 the apparent activities of enzymes entrapped in or covalently fixed to membranes are compared to those of enzymes directly adsorbed or fixed to electrode surfaces. It may be concluded that different immobilization procedures lead to approximately identical apparent activities. The advantage of direct attachment to the transducer surface is the low diffusion resistance of the monomolecular enzyme layer. On the other hand, enzyme membranes are more stable because of their inherent enzyme excess. 

Given the apparent activity of enzymes, it may be wondered why they are not effective almost immediately, as reportedly demonstrated by injection into the tumor, and as was apparently once demonstrated with the serum used for Burton s Immuno-Augmentive Therapy (Walters, 1993, p. 61). Or at least in as short a time frame as reported for Rife s bioelectric therapy (Walters, 1993, p. 269). However, this is apparently not the case. 

Measurement of apparent activities of enzymes of purine metabolism have been made in mixed blood leukocytes from more than 100 patients with severe mental retardation of unknown etiology, but in which a hereditary element is possible. About 10% showed...
