Location of samples

Audits of each phase of the study should include personnel training, preparation of collection forms, application calibration, each sample collection procedure, sample transport, each type of chemical analysis, data recording, data entry, data verification and data storage. Data collection in the field is often tedious if automated logging devices are not in place. To ensure data integrity, the paper and ink used for field studies should be waterproof. Each data collection form should contain appropriate locations for information detailing the time and location of sample collection, sample transport and sample analysis. Data collection forms should be stored in an orderly fashion in a secure location immediately upon return of field teams from the field at the end of each day. It is also important for data quality for studies to collect necessary field data seven days per week when required. In our experience, poor study quality is likely when field sample and data collection do not proceed on weekends. [Pg.946]

Millions of soil samples per year are analyzed for nonpoint source analytes such as potassium, phosphorous, insecticides, and herbicides. It is necessary to obtain an idea of the level of these components throughout the field and to take corrective action as necessary. Thus, a more random sampling methodology is called for. Figure 7.2 shows a field that includes both different soil types (letters) and topographical features (e.g., a ditch) that are to be sampled. Also, a transect line and locations of sample sites along it are indicated. Transect lines and sampling sites are discussed later. [Pg.154]

Spatial trends in LAS concentrations in marine and estuarine environments show clear relationships with the location of sampling points relative to point sources of wastewater discharges and a rapid rate of decrease is observed as one moves downstream from these. LAS tend to be degraded relatively rapidly in summer, whereas in winter a higher recalcitrance is observed. Sediments constitute the final sink of LAS that have not been degraded. [Pg.788]

Macro visual examination is done with the unaided eye or low power (up to 2 OX) magnification. An item may need to be cleaned prior to examination. Fracture origins and location of samples to be removed for further analysis are determined by macro visual examination. In 40 CRF Section 761 Subpart O, the TSCA specifically addresses the requirements for verification of self-implementing cleanup by defining the numbers and locations of samples to be collected from bulk PCB remediation waste and porous surfaces.
