Wetting anionic surfactants

SUPRA WET D-4 Is a fast-wetting, anionic surfactant developed specifically for nylon fibers. This product also has excellent emulsifying and dispersing characteristics. SUPRA-WET D-4 is compatible with other nonionic and anionic surfactants. [Pg.388]

Ammonium lauryl sulfate is an anionic surfactant. This means it lowers the surface tension of water, making the water spread more easily. Surfactants are also called wetting agents—in plain terms, they make water wetter. [Pg.200]

This chapter deals with sodium a-olefinsulfonate (AOS) and with sodium internal olefmsulfonate (IOS). AOS is a well-established product and is being applied in many household and industrial formulations. IOS of a sufficiently high quality has only recently been made on laboratory scale and pilot plant scale and has not yet been applied in commercial formulations. AOS and IOS have not only good wetting and detergency properties, but also good tolerance toward water hardness ions, a combination not always observed for other anionic surfactants. [Pg.364]

Analytical methods for qualitative and quantitative determination of all kinds of surfactants have long been established. There can be found either wet chemical methods—like titration—or methods of instrumental analytics. A classical method for anionic surfactants is the so-called two-phase-titration [63]. Using this method nearly every molecule bearing an anionic group is detected. The correct determination of sulfosuccinates is limited to the interferences of the other ingredients and byproducts present. With few exceptions all sulfosuccinates react with special indicators, e.g., hyamin 1622 (Rohm and Haas), to form an anionic-cationic complex and hence are to be analyzed by active content titration. [Pg.515]

Surfactants used as lubricants are added to polymer resins to improve the flow characteristics of the plastic during processing they also stabilise the cells of polyurethane foams during the foaming process. Surfactants are either nonionic (e.g. fatty amides and alcohols), cationic, anionic (dominating class e.g. alkylbenzene sulfonates), zwitterionic, hetero-element or polymeric (e.g. EO-PO block copolymers). Fluorinated anionic surfactants or super surfactants enable a variety of surfaces normally regarded as difficult to wet. These include PE and PP any product required to wet the surface of these polymers will benefit from inclusion of fluorosurfactants. Surfactants are frequently multicomponent formulations, based on petro- or oleochemicals. [Pg.785]

Alkyl polyglucoside carboxylate (INCI-name Sodium Lauryl Glucose Carboxylate (and) Lauryl Glucoside, Plantapon LGC SORB) is a new anionic surfactant with excellent performance for personal care cleansing applications. In shampoo and shower bath formulations the anionic surfactant shows a good foaming behavior. In body wash applications it improves sensorial effects. These properties make Plantapon LGC SORB suitable for several cosmetic applications, e.g., mild facial wash gel, mild baby shampoo, mild body wash for sensitive skin, wet wipes, and special sulfate-free shampoo applications. [Pg.91]

Is a high speed wetting agent with moderately low foaming properties. It is used as a penetrant for yarn and other fabrics in atmospheric and pressure dyeing systems, and in resin pad-bath applications. TRYCOL 5950 is also an intermediate in the synthesis of anionic surfactants. [Pg.357]

The activity of INTEX DETERGENT 261 is based primarily on an ethoxylated non-ionic surfactant. For increased efficiency, however, a fast wetting anionic sulfonate has been added. A small percentage of solvent insures easy and rapid dispersion of the product and assists in penetration and scouring of the yarn. [Pg.422]

These sulfonates are still valued as anionic surfactants for consumer products. The secondary alkanesulfonates are known to have high solubility, fast wetting properties, chemical stability to alkali, acids, and strong oxidants such as chlorine. [Pg.137]

In dyeing, surfactants are used as wetting agents. They are also used in the formulation of disperse dyes. A stable suspension of the dye is prepared with the help of an anionic surfactant, such as alkyl or aryl alkyl sulfonate. It has been shown that dyeing takes place through the aqueous phase by the slow dissolution of the solid dye particles (61, 62). The presence of the surfactant helps the dissolution of the dye. [Pg.3343]

The curves obtained at various concentrations are almost parallel. This observation means that the rate of change of voltage with respect to temperature is independent of the solids concentration. By cross-plotting the results shown in Figure 24, a set of calibration curves can be prepared with temperature as a parameter. When such curves were prepared, they indicated that the value of e at C = 0, obtained by extrapolation, was lower than the corresponding value obtained for tap water at the same temperature. A review of the procedure of this experiment indicated that the only possible reason for this difference was the fact that a small amount of a wetting agent (an anionic surfactant) was added with the solids to increase the wettability of the polystyrene particles. [Pg.203]

The wetting agent, polysorbate 80 (not more than 0.1-0.2% w/v of the final concentration), is dissolved in approximately half the final volume of aqueous vehicle. An anionic surfactant, such as Docusate Sodium USP, may be used as a wetting agent. This agent is, however, sensitive to pH and electrolyte concentration. [Pg.3603]

Docusate sodium and docusate salts are widely used as anionic surfactants in pharmaceutical formulations. Docusate sodium is mainly used in capsule and direct-compression tablet formulations to assist in wetting and dissolution. Docusate salts are also used in oral formulations as laxatives and fecal softeners see Table I. [Pg.257]
