On the GM debate and biosafety research, a review of results performed under the European Commission supervision ( EC-sponsored Research on Safety of Genetically Modified Organisms , edited by C. Kessler and I. Economidis) is available also online at the EU-website http //europa.eu.int/ comm/research/quality-of-life/gmo/. An update on current research in food safety, nutrition and food-related disease might be found in the websites of the World Health Organization, http //www.who.int/fsf/GMfood/index.htm, and of the UK Food Standards Agency, http //www.foodstandards.gov.uk/. [Pg.211]

Many policies and practices have been adopted by European countries for the management of contaminated sites. Information about the various national polices, the technical approaches for risk assessment, and the progress of rehabilitation activities in Europe has been compiled in the framework of two European networks—CARACS (Concerted Action for Risk Assessment for Contaminated Sites) and CLARINET (Contaminated Land Rehabilitation Network for Environmental Technologies)—which were funded by the European Commission. A detailed description of European national policies can be found in relevant publications2 3 and in the CLARINET website (http //www.clarinet.at). [Pg.520]

The PBAC meets three times per annum, in March, July and November, as the culmination of the 17 week pre-meeting application cycle (see Section 4.8). Positive PBAC recommendations are published on the PBS website approximately 6 weeks after the PBAC meeting. If an application for listing is successful, the PBAC recommends the maximum quantity to be dispensed on each prescription and the number of repeat prescriptions. The PBAC may also recommend prescribing restrictions - an authority required item requires the prescriber to obtain prior approval from the Health Insurance Commission (HIC), by telephone or post, and restricted benefit items may only be prescribed for specified therapeutic uses. [Pg.671]

Details of the technology appraisal process itself can be found on the website but briefly, when a technology appraisal is referred from the Department of Health and the National Assembly of Wales all possible stakeholders are identified (stakeholders can be manufacturers, professional bodies and patient groups). They are then consulted on the scope of the appraisal. An independent review of the published literature is commissioned and submissions (both... [Pg.699]

Within this context three Technical Notes for Guidance (TNGs) were commissioned for preparation by May 14th 2000. Only one document is currently available, the Guidance on Data Requirements for Active Substances and Biocidal Products . This was finalised in December 1999 and is available on the ECB website. The two other TNGs (namely, the Criteria for Annex 1 Entry and the Common Principles for the Evaluation of Dossiers) appeared as draft documents in 1998. Revised versions of these documents have since been made available for comment. No indication has been given by the Commission when final versions of the documents will be published. [Pg.113]

To assess the method bias of an analytical method, the appropriate RMs should be chosen. A list of available BCR RMs can be found on the website of the Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements (IRMM) of the Joint Research Centre, European Commission, Geel Establishment (www.irmm.jrc.be/rm/ intro.html). The validity of assessing the method bias by means of RMs depends on the assumption that the analytical method is otherwise unbiased as well as on the range of appropriate matrix RMs available. It should not be overlooked, however, that there may be a matrix mismatch between the test material and the most appropriate RMs available [32]. [Pg.148]

To date, approximately 125 different microporous structures have been reported to the International Zeolite Commission (IZC) for structure codes [6] and the interested reader can access this information via the following website http //www.iza-structure.org. Each microporous material is assigned a three-letter code by the IZC (the IZC code will be used throughout the remainder of this chapter). These microporous materials are distinguished by the connectivity of the framework atoms that determine the size and dimensionality of the pores and/or cages that they possess. [Pg.83]

To carry out its mission, CPSC administers five statutes. They are (1) the Consumer Product Safety Act (CPSA), (2) the Federal Hazardous Substances Act (FHSA), (3) the Flammable Fabrics Act (FFA), (4) the Poison Prevention Packaging Act (PPPA), and (5) the Refrigerator Safety Act (RSA). Toxicological issues arise most frequently under the CPSA, FHSA, and PPPA. CPSC regulations implementing these statutes may be found at Title 16 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and are available on the Commission s website. [Pg.2885]

One of the main concerns of the Subcommittee on Toxicology and Risk Assessment and its predecessor the Commission on Toxicology has been education of chemists in fundamental principles of toxicology. Activities here have involved the compilation of glossaries, educational modules, and reviews of matters of current concern. These can be found on the lUPAC website at http //www.iupac.org/divisions/ VII/VII.C.2/index.html. [Pg.2927]

All interested parties, such as the national authorities, the European Commission and the EFPIA, have considered these findings and offered their solutions. These have been actively debated and discussed. The EC has now proposed comprenensive reform of the EU pharmaceutical legislation. These proposals can be accessed on the EMEA website at http //pharmacos.eudra.org/F2/review/index.htm. This involves significant amendments to Directive 2001/83/EEC (for human medicines) and Council Regulation EEC/2309/93. [Pg.635]
