Molecular descriptors must then be computed. Any numerical value that describes the molecule could be used. Many descriptors are obtained from molecular mechanics or semiempirical calculations. Energies, population analysis, and vibrational frequency analysis with its associated thermodynamic quantities are often obtained this way. Ah initio results can be used reliably, but are often avoided due to the large amount of computation necessary. The largest percentage of descriptors are easily determined values, such as molecular weights, topological indexes, moments of inertia, and so on. Table 30.1 lists some of the descriptors that have been found to be useful in previous studies. These are discussed in more detail in the review articles listed in the bibliography. 

These subjects have been reviewed up the year 1975 in various works. Prij s Card Index (363) of thiazole compounds provides swift access to information on individual compounds. Syntheses of thiazoles have been carefully reviewed by Wiley etal. (361), and in 1957 the subject was dealt with in an excellent survey by Sprague and Land (448).

Methods for performing hazard analysis and risk assessment include safety review, checkhsts, Dow Fire and Explosion Index, what-if analysis, hazard and operabihty analysis (HAZOP), failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), fault tree analysis, and event tree analysis. Other methods are also available, but those given are used most often. 

The next step is to apply a number of loss control credit factors such as process control (emergency power, cooling, explosion control, emergency shutdown, computer control, inert gas, operating procedures, reactive chemical reviews), material isolation (remote control valves, blowdown, drainage, interlocks) and fire protection (leak detection, buried tanks, fire water supply, sprinkler systems, water curtains, foam, cable protection). The credit factors are combined and appHed to the fire and explosion index value to result in a net index. 

The first appearance of the term "alkyd resin" in the subject index of Chemicaly bstracts 2iS. in 1929, under Resins. It was not until 1936 that Alkyd Resins was Hsted in its alphabetical place, but stiU appeared as "See Resinous Products." The proliferation of Hterature on alkyd resins peaked from the 1940s through the 1960s. Research activities on alkyds in the United States, as indicated by the number of pubHcations, has apparentiy tapered off since the 1970s. Readers interested in alkyd history can find more detailed historical reviews elsewhere (1 4). 

Light-focusing plastic rods and other optical devices with graduated refractive indexes may use DADC and other monomers (29). Preparation and properties of plastic lenses from CR-39 are reviewed in reference 30.

Theoretical and structural studies have been briefly reviewed as late as 1979 (79AHC(25)147) (discussed were the aromaticity, basicity, thermodynamic properties, molecular dimensions and tautomeric properties ) and also in the early 1960s (63ahC(2)365, 62hC(17)1, p. 117). Significant new data have not been added but refinements in the data have been recorded. Tables on electron density, density, refractive indexes, molar refractivity, surface data and dissociation constants of isoxazole and its derivatives have been compiled (62HC(17)l,p. 177). Short reviews on all aspects of the physical properties as applied to isoxazoles have appeared in the series Physical Methods in Heterocyclic Chemistry (1963-1976, vols. 1-6). 

Chemical Exposure Index (CEI) Chemical Exposure Index, 1994). The CEI provides a method of rating the relative potential of acute health hazard to people from possible chemical release incidents. It may be used for conducting the initial process hazard analysis and it establishes the degree of mrther analysis needed. The CEI also may be used as part of the site review process.

You may only need one procedure that covers all the requirements but this is not always practical. The provisions you make for specific quality records should be included in the procedures for controlling the activity being recorded. For example, provisions for inspection records should be included in the inspection procedures, provisions for design review records should be included in the design review procedure. Within such procedures you should provide the forms (or content requirements for the records), the identification, collection/submission provisions, the indexing and filing provisions. It may be more practical to cover the storage, disposal, and retention provisions in separate procedures because they may not be type-dependent. Where each department retains its own records, these provisions may vary and therefore warrant separate procedures.

It should be stated that the nomenclature of the triazine derivatives is not uniform, e.g., in Chemical Abstracts the compounds are often indexed according to another sy.stem than that used in the original papers, and an additional system could have been used for this review. To avoid further complications, the author will u.se the commonest nomeclature in accordance with the representative monographs in this field (see references 12 and 45.)...
