The Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS) is a directorate of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). The CCPS, which is sponsored by approximately 80 companies in the process industries, was established in 1985 in response to a number of catastrophic incidents that had occurred prior to that time. The CCPS aims to improve process safety by publishing books, organizing conferences, conducting classes, and sponsoring research. On his return home in 1911, Honda was appointed professor of physies at the new Tohoku Imperial University in Sendai, in the north of Japan this institution had been established only in 1906, when the finance minister twisted the arm of an industrialist who had made himself unpopular because of pollution eaused by his copper mines and extracted the necessary funds to build the new university. A provisional institute of physical and chemical research was initiated in 1916, divided into a part devoted to novel plastics and another to metals. This proved to be Honda s lifetime domain he assembled a lively team of young physicists and chemists. In the same year, Honda invented a high-cobalt steel also containing tungsten and chromium, which had by far the highest coercivity of any permanent-magnet material then known. He called it KS steel, for K. Sumitomo, one of his sponsors, and it made Honda famous. 

The foundation for the more rational approach to drug discovery that is practised today comes from basic research into disease processes and medical conditions. It is essential that, with the use of evidence-based medicine to inform decisions in health care, the processes used in program development be as transparent as possible. Information about the limited evidence and inherent uncertainty should be disclosed and available for scrutiny, even within the software itself. In fact, in an attempt to maximize transparency, some have advocated open source development and publication of interactive software models [49, 50]. Certainly, details of methodologies, sources, and other techniques employed for development of the underlying models must be acknowledged. However, the proprietary nature of many of these programs must be taken into consideration and measures put into place to ensure confidentiality. Requested publication of all NIH-sponsored research online (in PubMed) [51] within a reasonable time frame after journal acceptance will help to ensure that these data are available in the public domain in short order.

If the trial is planned through the services of a contract research company, their estimate should include a time and cost accounting which specifies the exact services they will perform for the trial. Services not included are the responsibility of the Study Director and sponsor. The American Petroleum Industry is currently sponsoring research on the toxicology of hydrogen sulfide. These studies include examinations of neurotoxicology, reproductive and developmental toxicology (including developmental neurotoxicity), and the development of a PBPK model.
