Web enabled technology

As we discussed in Chapter 13, web-enabled technologies have now progressed to create e-supply chains. The market for managing the core ERP information (orders, inventory, etc.) of the extended supply chain is only now beginning to emerge in major projects as the following case example illustrates.

FOR MANY PEOPLE the World Wide Web is the public face of the Internet. Although the majority of network traffic is still devoted to electronic mail, most people visualize a Web page when they try to portray the Internet. Flexibility of the integration layer directly affects the ability to incorporate new supply chain units in the supply chain. Standardization and usage of the open web based technologies are primary enablers of rapid integration in the face of supply chain configuration. For example, web services and XML based standards such as ebXML" and RosettaNet are widely used (Nurmilaakso 2008 Ahn et al. 2012). 

Synchronisation implies that all parties in the supply chain are marching to the same drumbeat .
