Collaborative networks

Most typically organizational teams comprise a number of people who have agreed to collaborate on a particular task who come together from time to time to plan and co-ordinate their activities. They will all probably have several, perhaps many, other responsibilities or so-called team memberships. This kind of team might be more appropriately called a collaborative network or a dispersed team rather them just plain team which could have misleading connotations. [Pg.191]

We believe there is a need for a new approach to foster intergroup collaboration to speed up drug discovery. The impact of accelerating the identification and advancement of promising anti-malarial and Mtb lead compounds through the efforts of a collaborative network of top antimalarial and Mtb or other neglected disease researchers, very simply, can be measured in terms of the potential number of lives saved. Malaria infects ca. 200 million people and causes over 1 million deaths per year, disproportionately claiming African children under the age of 5 years. Similarly Mtb kills over 1 million people per year. [Pg.140]

The support is channelled through a range of different mechanisms or activities which promote collaboration, networking and capacity-building, while at the same time catalyzing democratic reform and supporting economic development in partner countries. Among all these type of... [Pg.283]

The Web can also be used for cooperative preparation of documents and/or software by collaborating network users, even if they are far away from each other. That is why Web technology is becoming increasingly popular in intranets and extranets as well. Companies and organizations can thus increase the efficiency of collective work within their staff by using Web-based tools. [Pg.246]

Over time, the RNNP (Trends in risk level in the petroleum industry) process developed into the most important tool for this purpose, and was expanded in 2007 to embrace the PSA s responsibility for land-based petroleum plants. The RNNP is organised through a collaborative network embracing research institutions, industry, employers and unions and the government as shown in Figure 10.2. [Pg.265]

As a paradigm pioneer, the social artist is able to see trends, and the emergence of new patterns out of apparent chaos. He or she demonstrates that different times require a revolution in management styles. For example, the social artist has the tools to help people to work in collaborative networks and move away from hierarchies and power structures. He or she is one who helps cultures and... [Pg.326]

Thompson proposes a practical taxonomy of collaborative endeavours [17]. For him, Virtual Business Networks (or VBN) are companies coming together to cooperate to achieve some shared business goal by forming networks enabled by various forms of web-based technology. VBNs appear in many guises and names such as Collaborative Networks, Virtual Clusters, Virtual Enterprise Networks, Collaborative Supply Chains, Networked Enterprises and Star Alliances. [Pg.169]

Collaboration involves considerable preparation costs/time, in addition to the operational overheads and risks, which represent barriers to the rapid formation of dynamic coalitions in response to business opportunities [48]. As a basic rule, in order to support rapid formation of collaborative networks, it is necessary that potential partners are ready in advance and prepared to participate in such collaboration. This preparedness includes compliance with a common interoperable... [Pg.192]

An estimated 450 scientific experts at the Army Gas Protection Laboratory Heeresgasschutzlaboratorium) in Berlin-Spandau, officially tasked with chemical defence, synthesized thousands of chemical compounds to see whether any of them could be developed into warfare agents, performed tests on animals and humans, established collaborative networks and secret contracts with private companies, including IG Farben, conducted extensive htera-mre reviews, and secured the support of the State Patent Office, yet up until the mid 1930s no major advances had been made. In the end, the discovery of the first major new warfare agent since the First World War was largely unrelated to the allocation of government resources or to the provision of military expertise it resulted from research into new synthetic pesticides. [Pg.79]
