Water nebulization

The liquid (solvent) that is nebulized should be polar (e.g., water, acetic acid). [Pg.63]

Medical uses for Udel resin include surgical trays, nebulizers, flow controllers for blood, and respiration regulators. Transportation applications center around automotive fuse housings, electrical connectors, and switches. Electrical and electronic end uses include coil bobbins, housings, connectors, bushings, capacitor film, and business machine parts. EinaHy, water, heater dip tubes, milking machine parts, pollution control equipment, and some filtration membranes are made. [Pg.272]

HR-ICP-MS EEEMENT-2 (Pinnigan MAT, Germany) equipped with a standard introduction system (quartz water-cooled spray chamber, concentric nebulizer, torch with 1.5 mm i.d. injector and nickel cones) was used for measurements. The following operating conditions were used RP power 1150 W, coolant gas flow rate 16 1 min k auxiliary gas flow rate 0.85 1 min nebulizer gas flow rate 1.2 1 min k Sample uptake rate was 0.8-1 ml min k Measurements were performed with low and middle resolutions. Rh was used as an internal standard. Por calibration working standard solutions were prepared by diluting the multielemental stock solutions CPMS (SPEX, USA) with water to concentration range from 5 ng to 5 p.g I k... [Pg.287]

Flow injection techniques can be used to inject sample volumes as small as 10 jiL into a flowing stream of water with little degradation of detection limits. Frit nebulizers have efficiencies as high as 94% and can be operated with as litde as 2 jiL of sample solution. [Pg.638]

Kennedy describes a method using an ultrasonic nebulizer to generate a fog of water droplets w hich is used in the same way as smoke to visualize airflows. Several types of nebulizers are available but they require an electrical connection and are not hand-held. Food dye can be added to the water to produce colored fog. The nebulizers are expensive (about 1500 ECU) but have negligible operating costs. Although the amount of smoke produced is small, it is nontoxic and nonirritating. [Pg.1021]

If the nurse is responsible for administering the medication by nebulization, it is important to place the patient in a location where he can sit comfortably for 10 to 15 minutes. The compressor is plugged in and the medication mixed as directed, or the prepared unit dose vial is emptied into the nebulizer. Different types of medication are not mixed without checking with the physician or the pharmacist. The mask or mouthpiece is assembled and the tubing connected to the compressor. The patient is placed in a comfortable, upright position with the mask over the nose and mouth. The mask must fit properly so that the mist does not flow up into the eyes. If using a mouthpiece instead of a mask, have the patient place the mouthpiece into the mouth. The compressor is turned on and the patient instructed to take slow, deep breaths. If possible, the patient should hold his breath for 10 seconds before slowly exhaling. The treatment is continued until the medication chamber is empty. After treatment, the mask is washed with hot, soapy water, rinsed well, and allowed to air dry. [Pg.342]

The major advance in the way in which column eluate is deposited on the belt was the introduction of spray deposition devices to replace the original method which was simply to drop liquid onto the belt via a capillary tube connected directly to the outlet of the HPLC column. These devices, based on the gas-assisted nebulizer [5], have high deposition efficiencies, transfer of sample can approach 100% with mobile phases containing up to 90% water, and give constant sample deposition with little band broadening. [Pg.138]

As a starting material, TTBP (Titinium tetraisoproxide, Aldrich Chem. Co. ltd., 98%) was dissolved in distilled water by adding nitric acid. Total titanium ion concentration was fixed at 0.5M. The precursor solution was converted into droplets by ultrasonic nebulizer of 1.7MHz. These droplets were transported to the reaction region by carrier gas. [Pg.762]

In cases of severe acute asthmatic attacks, bronchodilators and steroids for direct dehveiy to the lungs may be needed in large doses. This is achieved by direct inhalation via a nebulizer device this converts a liquid into a mist or fine spray. The dmg is diluted in small volumes of Water for Injections BP before loading into the reservoir of the machine. This vehicle must be sterile and preservative-fiee and is therefore prepared as a terminally sterilized unit dose in polyethylene nebules. [Pg.416]

If it is desirable to reuse the oil, then more efficient oil-water separators utilizing heating and nebulization techniques will be needed. U.S. patents issued to Weber and colleagues42 and Wang and colleagues43 make use of such techniques. [Pg.712]

The concept of selectivity and specificity has been applied to characterize interferences appearing in two different ICP-MS techniques (Horn [2000]). Classical ICP-MS with pneumatic nebulization and ETV-ICP-MS are compared for the determination of traces of zinc in sea-water. Whereas spectral interferences decrease using the ETV device, nonspectral interferences increase significantly (Bjorn et al. [1998]). A quantitative comparison of the both analytical procedures, here called PN (pneumatic nebulization) and ETV (electrothermal vaporization, Sturgeon and Lam [1999]) is possible by means the specificity as a function of the Zn concentration (Horn [2000]). The spectral interferences on the four zinc isotopes are listed in Table 7.4. [Pg.218]

The determination of the total concentrations of metal ions and arsenic in the water samples and in the eluates of solid materials were carried out using ICP-AES (Spectroflame, SPECTRO A.I.) with pneumatic nebulization (cross flow). Anion (S042, Cl ) determinations were done using an ion chromatographic device with IonPac AS12A/AG12A column and a conductivity detector. [Pg.67]

The preparation of aqueous solutions from solids is usually performed after the sample has been ground to a powder of uniform size. Sometimes, samples can be only sparingly soluble in water and therefore organic solvents may be used to dissolve the sample. Organic solvents can increase the sensitivities of atomic spectrometric analyses as a result of increases in the efficiencies of the nebulization of the analyte solutions. When organic solvents are used to dissolve samples non-selective ligands should be added to complex ionic species that would otherwise be insoluble in the organic solvent. [Pg.247]

An ELSD converts the HPLC eluent into a particle stream and measures the scattered radiation. It offers universal detection for nonvolatile or semivolatile compounds and has higher sensitivity than the RI detector (in the low ng range) in addition to being compatible with gradient analysis. ELSD is routinely used in combinatorial screening. Response factors are less variable than that of other detectors. An ELSD consists of a nebulizer equipped with a constant temperature drift tube where a counter-current of heated air or nitrogen reduces the HPLC eluent into a fine stream of analyte particles. A laser or a polychromatic beam intersects the particle stream, and the scattered radiation is amplified by a photomultiplier. Manufacturers include Alltech, Polymer Laboratories, Shimadzu, Waters, Sedere, and ESA. [Pg.512]

Purified water or saline in pretilled nebulizers for use in inhalation therapy Skin protectants (intended for use on intact skin) ... [Pg.93]

The sample solution is aspirated (drawn by vacuum) from its original container through a small tube and converted to an aerosol, or fine mist, prior to the mixing. These steps (aspiration and conversion to an aerosol) are accomplished with the use of a nebulizer at the head of the mixing chamber. The nebulizer is a small (3 cm long, 1 cm in diameter) adjustable device resembling the nozzle one places on the end of a garden hose to create a water spray. There are two inlets to the nebulizer. One inlet is a small plastic... [Pg.251]
