HR-ICP-MS EEEMENT-2 (Pinnigan MAT, Germany) equipped with a standard introduction system (quartz water-cooled spray chamber, concentric nebulizer, torch with 1.5 mm i.d. injector and nickel cones) was used for measurements. The following operating conditions were used RP power 1150 W, coolant gas flow rate 16 1 min k auxiliary gas flow rate 0.85 1 min nebulizer gas flow rate 1.2 1 min k Sample uptake rate was 0.8-1 ml min k Measurements were performed with low and middle resolutions. Rh was used as an internal standard. Por calibration working standard solutions were prepared by diluting the multielemental stock solutions CPMS (SPEX, USA) with water to concentration range from 5 ng to 5 p.g I k... [Pg.287]

For these complexes, the rate of carbonylation increases rapidly with increasing tr-alkyl character. Thus, (5-cis-butadiene)ZrCp2 (5a) is carbony-lated 2.5 times faster than the zirconocene complex of 1,2,5,6-tetramethyl-3,4-bis(methylene)tricyclo[3.1.0.0 ] hexane (51) (ambient temperature and 1 bar CO pressure) taken as a standard. Introduction of methyl groups at the internal carbon centers C2/C3 of the diene chain increases the carbonylation rate by a factor of 5 with phenyl groups at these positions increasing the rate by a factor of 250 (Table VIII). The organometallic reaction products have yet to be isolated or completely identified. Ultimately, zirconium enolate complexes (20) are probably formed in these... [Pg.27]

For individuals with high urine uranium concentrations (1.0 pg/L uranium or more in urine) such as from uranium milling workers, wounded combatants whose tissues were embedded with pieces of steel hardened with depleted uranium, or those with similar circumstances, a simple analysis of a 1/10 dilution of urine with a standard introduction system on most ICP-MS instruments may be used to derive an acceptably accurate uranium isotope ratio. As an example. Figure 23.1 illustrates the results obtained from a urine sample spiked with 1.0 pg/L uranium, diluted 1/10 with 5% nitric acid, and analyzed with a well-optimized single collector magnetic sector ICP-MS instrument. However, in the vast majority of urine samples, the uranium concentrations are far below 1.0 pg/L so that accurate determinations are a challenge in most cases [2]. [Pg.509]

The capability to obtain accurate isotope ratio results at very low concentrations as presented here is dependent on the system used. MS-ICP-MS is a more sensitive instrumentation than is a Q-ICP-MS.The use of a desol-vating introduction system permits greater sensitivity than does use of a standard double-pass, cyclonic, or conical spray chamber, even if Peltier cooled. The use of desolvation also permits lower polyatomic ion formation as demonstrated by very low uranium oxides during optimization. Thus, instrumental setups that differ from those utilized here will have to be evaluated for limitations of their capabilities. The results obtained using SPE, a desolvating introduction system with nitrogen addition, and an MS-ICP-MS instrument will differ dramatically from those obtained at the same concentration using dilution only with a Q-ICP-MS and a standard introduction system. One should not expect to use QC samples spiked with only 20 ng/L total uranium with the latter system. [Pg.520]

The nebulizer gas should be optimized for signal intensity, lowest possible cerium oxide formation and highest possible uranium signal. RF power is typically optimized at 1200-1300 W. The exact parameters depend on the instrument and introduction system. A PerkinElmer Sciex Q-ICP-MS should be optimized to obtain the highest possible stable signal with no more than 2.5% CeO" formation with a standard introduction system. If the preferred Peltier-cooled system is used, CeO" should be optimized to less than 1.8%. [Pg.522]

In spite of all the advantages mentioned above, ETV-ICPMS, the introduction of which 25 years ago was received with great enthusiasm by the analytical community, has failed to become a standard introduction system for ICPMS. Nowadays, its use is mainly restricted to research centers and academia, not only in the field of polymer analysis, but also in every other field. The reason is perhaps related to the more recent introduction of microflow nebulizers that also show some of the advantages displayed by ETV (low sample consumption, higher analyte introduction efficiency). Moreover, the lack of the general success of ETV can also in part... [Pg.1064]

Whereas a great deal of attention has been paid to the extraction efficiency of various solvent extraction methods, much less effort has been devoted to quantitation of thermal desorption techniques. Thermal desorption analyses may be successfully calibrated using an external standard method. However, for additional confidence internal standard introduction is possible via a sample valve accessory. [Pg.612]

With the introduction of new antipollution standards as well as limitations envisaged for the chemical composition of finished products, current refining flowsheets and especially those beyond the year 2000 will have to adapt to the new specifications using new processes. [Pg.365]

At first, it is statistical standard of the undefective section. Such standard is created, introducing certain lower threshold and using measured data. Under the classical variant of the shadow USD method it is measured fluctuations of accepted signal on the undefective product and installed in each of 512 direction its threshold in proportion to corresponding dispersions of US signal in all 128 sections. After introducting of threshold signal is transformed in the binary form. Thereby, adaptive threshold is one of the particularities of the offered USCT IT. [Pg.249]

Introduction. When only very small quantities of organic materials are available their manipulation must necessarily be carried out on a correspondingly small scale. This occurs frequently in research problems, but small-scale preparative work is often of value to the student because considerable economy of materials and of time can be achieved. It is emphasised, however, that the proper training for the organic chemist must rest upon the correct understanding and thorough practice of the manipulations on the macro-scale already described, and that he should consider small-scale work as a sequel to and not as a replacement of the above standard techniques. [Pg.59]

The best procedures for 3-vinylation or 3-arylation of the indole ring involve palladium intermediates. Vinylations can be done by Heck reactions starting with 3-halo or 3-sulfonyloxyindoles. Under the standard conditions the active catalyst is a Pd(0) species which reacts with the indole by oxidative addition. A major con.sideration is the stability of the 3-halo or 3-sulfonyloxyindoles and usually an EW substituent is required on nitrogen. The range of alkenes which have been used successfully is quite broad and includes examples with both ER and EW substituents. Examples are given in Table 11.3. An alkene which has received special attention is methyl a-acetamidoacrylate which is useful for introduction of the tryptophan side-chain. This reaction will be discussed further in Chapter 13. [Pg.109]

The reduction of the yellow-colored Mo(VI) complex to the blue-colored Mo(V) complex is a slow reaction. In the standard spectrophotometric method, it is difficult to reprodudbly control the amount of time that reagents are allowed to react before measuring the absorbance. To achieve good precision, therefore, the reaction is allowed sufficient time to proceed to completion before measuring the absorbance. In the FIA method, the flow rate and the dimensions of the reaction coil determine the elapsed time between sample introduction and the measurement of absorbance (about 30 s in this configuration). Since this time is precisely controlled, the reaction time is the same for all standards and samples. [Pg.657]

Proper appHcation of one or more of the tools of quaUty should lead to the elimination of the causes effecting off-standard results and thus to improvement of the process under investigation. It is often the QA professional who is responsible for the introduction and faciUtation of the use of these techniques in the chemical corporation. [Pg.371]

The ideal gas is a useful model of the behavior of gases and serves as a standard to which real gas behavior can be compared. This is formalized by the introduction of residual properties. Another useful model is the ideal solution, which sei ves as a standard to which real solution behavior can be compared. This is formalized by introduction of excess propei ties. [Pg.520]

A group of computers becomes a network when intercomputer communication is estabhshed. Prior to the 1980s, all system suppliers used proprietaiy protocols to network their systems. Ad hoc approaches were sometimes used to connect third-pai ty equipment, which was not cost-effective in system maintenance, upgrade, and expansion. The recent introduction of standardized protocols has led to a decrease in initial capital cost. Most current DCS network protocol designs are based on the ISO-OSI seven-laver model. [Pg.774]

Introduction Review and audit processes are used in the chemical process industry to evaluate, examine, and verify the design of process equipment, operating procedures, and management systems. These processes assure compliance with company standards and guidelines as well as government regulations. Reviews and audits can encompass the areas of process and personnel safety, environmental and industrial hygiene protection, quality assurance, maintenance procedures, and so on. [Pg.2283]

Have compared intensity F, measured from the films prepared by introduction of an analyzed material to polymer in a various aggregative stations as a powder, a solution and a mix of a powder with a solution. The weight of an introduced material (in recalculation on superficial density P ) changed from 0,14 up to 0,43 mg/cm. Have established, that in some cases the value I, measured from films with a powder, it is essential ( 40 %) less the value I, measured from films with a solution, containing identical quantity of determined elements. By using of methods of a standard - background and internal standard this decrease is saved. [Pg.104]
