The DPET s electrodes are in the form of concentric cylindrical plates suspended from the top of the vessel and are connected to a high-voltage transformer such that adjacent plates are given opposite charges. As the oil passes through the electrodes, water droplets are influenced by the field to create a sinusoidal migration between plates of opposite charge. This motion serves two purposes to restrict the upward flow of the water in relation to the oil and to enhance the rate of collision of water droplets, which are distorted to form dipoles under the electric field, and thereby increase the rate of coalescence. Clean oil leaves from the top of the vessel, while water is drained out from the bottom. Instrumentation available on this unit permits pressure and temperature measurement of both the feed and vessel conditions and the treated oil and outlet water flow rates. [Pg.376]

The water wall area is not usually lined, since the majority of the heat transfer is expected to occur in this zone. The base of the tubes at the top of the combustor hning may have a silicon carbide tile or a thin layer of high-conductivity plastic refractory to reduce the erosion of the tubes as the ash slides down the tubes and hits the combustor hning. The water waUs consist of a series of water-filled tubes connected by fins to form a sohd waU that functions as a super heat sink. Any disruption in the feed flow results in a very sudden and severe temperature drop as the water waU drains the heat from the flue gas stream. [Pg.412]

Solid-Bed Caustic Treatment. SoHd-bed caustic units utilizing methanol [67-56-1] injection into the LPG feed stream can be used for carbonyl sulfide removal. The methanol—caustic solution must be drained periodically from the beds and discarded. When the soHd bed is exhausted, the spent caustic must be discarded and replaced. The LPG from the treater has a low enough water content to meet the propane specification. [Pg.185]

The feed-preparation screen between crusher and separately vessel may be of either the revolving or the vibrating type. Wash water is apphed only to the feed end ofthe screen so that the process feed will enter the separator moist but without any free water, which would lower pulp density. In a few instances it has been found advantageous to provide for surge storage between screen and separator to drain off further excess water. [Pg.1788]

The blowdown from the boiler(s) will be run to a flash-steam vessel mounted adjacent to the feed tank. Flash steam will be introduced into the feed tank through a dip pipe terminating in a distribution manifold. The drain from the flash vessel may then be taken to a residual blowdown heat exchanger. Any remaining heat is then transferred to the make-up water to the tank before the blowdown runs to drain. [Pg.361]

NOTE LP coil boilers with integral recycle are designed with the drain from the water-steam separator recycled within the boiler feed circuits. LP coil boilers with external recycle are designed with the drain from the water-steam separator either being dumped or recycled to the FW tank. [Pg.593]

A roof drains into a gutter, which feeds the water into a downspout with a square cross section (4 in. x 4 in.). The discharge end of the downspout is 12 ft below the entrance, and terminates in a 90° mitered (one weld) elbow. The downspout is made of smooth sheet metal. [Pg.230]

Measuring the amount of water vapor passed through the furnace is possible only by feeding the water condensate into a graduated measuring cylinder instead of draining it back into blask A . To compensate for the evaporated water, flask A has to be continuously replenished by a drop feeder. [Pg.102]
