Feed process

Most poultry production, and a growing percentage of swiae production, takes place ia iatensive, confinement operations. Much of the poultry production is carried out under a system of vertical iategration ia which a producer hatches the chicks, grows them ia the producer s faciUties or ia contract facihties, provides the feed, processes the animals, and markets the product. This system of vertically iategrated production is not as common ia the swiae iadustry. [Pg.141]

Various processes can be used to produce energy or gaseous, liquid, and solid fuels from biomass and wastes. In addition, chemicals can be produced by a wide range of processing techniques. The following Hst summarizes the principal feed, process, and product variables considered in developing a synfuel-from-biomass process. [Pg.15]

In addition to its industrial importance as an intermediate in the synthesis of vitamin K, menadione, or more specifically, salts of its bisulfite adduct, are important commodities in the feed industry and are used as stabilized forms in this appHcation. Commercially significant forms are menadione dimethyl pyrimidinol (MPB) (10) and menadione sodium bisulfite (MSB) (11). MSB is sold primarily as its sodium bisulfite complex. The influence of feed processing, ie, pelleting, on the stabiUty of these forms has been investigated (68). The biological availabiUties and stabiUty of these commercial sources has been deterrnined (69,70). [Pg.155]

The process of fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) is the central process in a modem, gasoline-oriented refinery. In U.S. refineries, the amount of feed processed by fluid catalytic cracking units (FCCU) is equivalent to 35% of the total cmde oil processed in the United States (1). As of January 1991, installed FCCU capacity in the United States was 8.6 x ICf m /d (5.4 x 10 barrels/d). [Pg.208]

Some plants use a bleed-and-feed process where a calculated quantity is withdrawn to waste treat each day and replaced with an equivalent amount of fresh solution. Using cleaners that reject oils can be effective if proper equipment is available. Stripping racks and reject parts off-line helps extend the... [Pg.153]

USATHAMA) completed a trial burn of explosive, contaminated soil in a rotary kiln (Noland, 1984). Soil contaminated from red and pink water lagoons was successfully burned. A transportable rotary kiln yrstem was set up. The technology by Therm-All, Inc., had been used in industry for destruction of solid wastes. The normal screw feed system was not used, due to fear of a soil explosion during the extruded plug feed process. Therefore, the soil was placed in combustible buckets and individually fed by a ram into the incinerator. The feed rate was 300 to 400 Ib/hr and the operational temperature was 1200° to 1600°F in the kiln and 1600° to 2000°F in the secondary chamber. [Pg.163]

Primary radical termination is also of demonstrable significance when very high rates of initiation or very low monomer concentrations are employed. It should be noted that these conditions pertain in all polymerizations at high conversion and in starved feed processes. Some syntheses of telechelics are based on this process (Section 7.5.1). Reversible primary radical termination by combination with a persistent radical is the desired pathway in many forms of living radical polymerization (Section 9.3). [Pg.62]

The monitoring scheme carried out on 5 Mi-scale plants, 4 demonstrative ones and an experimental one, shows high biogas yield (m3.Kg VS.d ). The anaerobic digestion process is shown to be stable, even when there are falls in digestion temperature, or breaks in the mixing and feeding process. Considerable problems were noted, however,... [Pg.385]

A model for crystallization point of the urea melt sprayed into the granulator was developed based on acoustic spectra recorded from sensor position A during a trial period of 24 hours. A flow sheet of the liquid urea feed process can be seen in Figure 9.7. Sensor A is mounted onto an orifice plate inserted in the main supply pipeline of liquid urea (see Figures 9.6 and 9.7). The reference values used to calibrate the model are the crystallization temperature (called the jc point ), as determined by the pilot plant laboratory (heat table visual nucleation/crystallization detection). [Pg.287]

Mannans have been found in some kinds of plants such as endosperms of copra and ivory palm nuts, guar beans, locust beans, coffee beans and roots of konjak Amorphophallus konjac). Most of these saccharides are used only in the food and feed processing industries. Recently, it has been reported that manno-oligosaccharides are useful as one of the best growth factors for Bifidobacterium sp. and Lactobacillus... [Pg.52]

Resid and VGO are two typical types of feed processed in ECCU. It is of interest to know which feed can benefit more from the recycle operation. Generally speaking,... [Pg.8]

Pulp and paper mills. The second largest consumers of tyre fuel ate pulp and paper mills (Table 1, Fig. 4). Because the production of pulp and paper is an energy-intensive process, these facilities typically have their own boilers and turbines to meet electrical needs. Pulp and paper mills use TDF instead of whole tyres to supplement wood waste as fuel. The wood waste, also referred to as hog fuel, consists of chipped bark and other unusable tree parts (Barlaz et al. 1993). The use of TDF helps maintain constant combustion conditions in the stoker grate boiler system, which are not easily achieved using wood waste alone (Ohio Air Quality Development Authority 1991). The fuel-feeding process of these types of boilers, however, requires that the TDF be almost entirely free of wires (Jones et al. 1990). This requirement increases the costs of fuel significantly. [Pg.481]

In the multiple-feed process an initiator mix is used to obtain a smooth temperature profile and low initiator consumption. The initiator mix consists of three or four organic peroxides from Table 5.1-2 differing in activity. To cover the range of lower temperatures, dicyclohexyl peroxy dicarbonate, /-butylperoxy neodecanoate, or /-butylperoxy pivalate are used. The peroxide for moderately high temperatures is frequently /-butylperoxy 2-ethylhexanoate or /-butylperoxy benzoate. The high-temperature initiator in the mix is di(/-butyl)peroxide. [Pg.250]

Gas adsorption should be considered for a given separation when one or more of the above criteria apply to distillation and when a suitable adsorbent exists. In general a suitable adsorbent is one which shows adequate selectivity (greater than two for the key components) and capacity, can be regenerated easily and causes no damage to the products by promoting byproduct-forming reactions It is also usually desirable that the adsorbent selectively adsorb the component(s) in lower concentrations in the feed to minimize the amount of adsorbent required per unit of feed processed ... [Pg.150]

Under the relatively mild processing conditions used for the hydrodesulfurization of these particular feedstocks, it is difficult to achieve complete vaporization of the feed. Process conditions may dictate that only part of the feedstock is actually in the vapor phase and that sufficient liquid phase is maintained in the catalyst bed to carry the larger molecular constituents of the feedstock through the bed. If the amount of liquid phase is insufficient for this purpose, molecular stagnation (leading to carbon deposition on the catalyst) will occur. [Pg.234]
