One of the most important direct uses for nitromethane is in the stabilization of halo-genated hydrocarbons. For example, small amounts of nitromethane are widely used in industry to form stable non-corrosive mixtures with 1,1,1-trichloroethane for vapour degreasing, dry cleaning and for cleaning semiconductors and lenses. It is also used to stabilize the halogenated propellants for aerosols and to inhibit corrosion on the interiors of tin-plated steel cans containing water-based aerosol formulations (Markofsky, 1991 Angus Chemical Co., 1998). [Pg.489]

The large-scale application of micro emulsions in leather degreasing was motivated by questioning current industrial processes for degreasing due to potentially environmental concerns. Of relevance for leather degreasing were mainly two processes, a solvent-based one and a water-based one. The surfactants showing the best performance in the latter... [Pg.325]

From the virtual smorgasbord of hydrotropes that are available, products from the cationic (quatemized fatty amine ethoxylates) and amphoteric families can be combined with nonionic surfactants to produce water-based formulations for the cleaning or degreasing of hard surfaces. [Pg.322]

To aid dispersion of the carbon fiber in the polymer matrix, it is usual to apply a polymer compatible size, normally a lower molecular weight version of the polymer can be used, preferably in a water base (e.g. a polyurethane). If the fiber has an epoxy size, this must be removed by solvent extraction in a solvent degreasing plant. Under some conditions, it is possible to blend 10% epoxy sized fiber. If the thermoplastic polymer is to be used at high temperatures (e.g. PEEK), then the size must be temperature resistant, such as a polyimide. [Pg.924]

Ceramic microfiltration is another technology that is being applied in solvent and water-based paint production, and paint applying, industries for the treatment of paint-water mixtures, plus other areas such as oil-water emulsions, compressor condensate and degreasing baths. [Pg.266]

Nonaqueous solvent degreasers tend to work as cold degreasers, but where considerable quantities of grease must be removed, aqueous-based emulsifying degreasers are employed, and these work best in hot water or steam solution. [Pg.649]
