Vehicle performance characteristics

Only experimental hydrogen vehicles have been built to date, and it is not possible to derive meaningful conclusions about vehicle performance characteristics from them. Based on the internal-combustion engine work conducted to date,... [Pg.33]

The different customer utihzatimi of a passenger car, a transport van, busses or trucks clearly show the differences and difficulty) of the introduction of technical solutions. The environmental conditions, the economic and last but not least the expected vehicle performance characteristics have large influence to the vehicle and powertrain requirements. Furthermore, the region of operation, economic viability requirements and last but not least desired driving capabilities do have a significant influence on the requirements to a fuel cell vehicle and its powertrain. [Pg.67]

We believe to have shown here that the RVP of gasoline is a primary characteristic for quality resulting from a delicate compromise between the demands for vehicle performance, optimization of refinery operations and environmental protection. [Pg.190]

Another area of success has been in applied materials research. Because of the integral nature of materials to advances in energy production and consumption, the laboratories have developed a number of toughened ceramics. When used as a replacement for steel, they will improve the energy performance characteristics of high-temperature applications for components of combined-cycle power plants and vehicle engines. [Pg.820]

Performance Characteristics. The sintered nickel-sintered iron design battery has outstanding power characteristics at all states of discharge. making them attractive to the design of electric vehicles (EV) which must accelerate with traffic even when almost completely discharged. [Pg.187]

We conducted a field test for examining the performance characteristics of the air purifying materials for NO removal from ambient air. As the test site, a roadside of a 6-lane, east and west bound highway in Tokyo was selected. The average traffic was 113,000 vehicles a day. [Pg.263]

This chapter explains what alternative fuels are and why they are being considered for use in transportation vehicles. The production processes to make each are presented along with examples of recent production volumes. The typical impacts on vehicle performance (power, driveability, cold-start capability, etc.) are presented as well as typical vehicle emissions characteristics. [Pg.5]

Very few heavy-duty propane vehicles have been developed and put into use therefore, a database of knowledge about their performance characteristics does not exist. However, their characteristics should be similar to the relative differences between natural gas heavy-duty vehicles and their diesel engine counterparts. If this supposition holds true, heavy-duty propane vehicles should have similar or better power, the same or better driveability, and better cold-start performance compared to the same vehicle with a diesel engine. (Unlike light-duty vehicles, heavy-duty propane vehicles should have better cold-start performance compared to diesel engines because of the many cold-start challenges diesel engines face.)... [Pg.28]

The properties of a fuel define its physical and chemical characteristics. A thorough understanding of the properties of a fuel is essential to the design and engineering of engine combustion systems, vehicle fuel systems, fuel storage, and fuel dispensing systems. Fuel properties impact vehicle performance, emissions, fuel efficiency, reliability, and durability. [Pg.43]

From a formulative point of view, it is important to take into consideration that the base in which liposomes are incorporated could also affect the drug delivery profile as well as the interactions between the liposomes and skin structures. The effect of formulation bases on dyphylline skin permeation from liposomes was examined by Touitou et al. [9]. In this work the effect of four bases for dyphylline liposomes (polyethylene glycol (PEG), carbopol gel, a PEG-enhancer base, and water) was studied. With these bases, the lowest skin permeation flux and a superior skin partitioning of liposomal dyphylline were reported for the PEG base, suggesting that this base favored dyphylline accumulation within the skin. A number of liposomes are currently marketed by cosmetic raw material companies for incorporation in different bases to obtain final products. It is important to keep in mind that the delivery properties of the final formulation could be altered by the vehicle used and should be tested to confirm any performance characteristics claimed. [Pg.259]

In addition to vehicle optimization, we will use higher capacity metal hydride alloys developed at ECD, coupled with improved heat exchangers. This improved metal hydride storage system will be integrated into the vehicle for optimum utilization of waste heat. Detailed performance characteristics under different sets of driving conditions will determine areas of further improvement if necessary. [Pg.257]

Environment characteristics This provides the external interactions, including terrtiin from selected databases at varied levels of resolution, weather features insofar as they affect vehicle performance or operator sensory performance, and cultural features (towns, towers, wires, etc.). In short, the analyst here specifies the world of action of the experiment/simulation. [Pg.2432]
