The setup as seen in Figure 1 mainly consists of a Varian Linatron 3000A linear accelerator (LINAC) as radiation source, a rotational stage for sample manipulation, and a two-dimensional high-energy x-ray detector array consisting of four amorphous silicon area detectors Heimann RIS 256. The source to detector distance is 3.7 m. [Pg.492]

The source of radiation is a linear accelerator with selectable primary energies of 6, 9 or 11 MeV ( VARIAN Linatron 3000 A). The output of the LINAC at 9 MV is 3000 rad ( 30 Gy) per minute. The pulse length is 3.8 microseconds with repetition frequencies between 50 and 250 Hertz. [Pg.584]

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy. Bmker s database, designed for use with its spectrophotometers, contains 20,000 C-nmr and H-nmr, as weU as a combined nmr-ms database (66). Sadder Laboratories markets a PC-based system that can search its coUection of 30,000 C-nmr spectra by substmcture as weU as by peak assignments and by fiiU spectmm (64). Other databases include one by Varian and a CD-ROM system containing polymer spectra produced by Tsukuba University, Japan. CSEARCH, a system developed at the University of Vieima by Robien, searches a database of almost 16,000 C-nmr. Molecular Design Limited (MDL) has adapted the Robien database to be searched in the MACCS and ISIS graphical display and search environment (63). Projects are under way to link the MDL system with the Sadder Hbrary and its unique search capabiHties. [Pg.121]

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. In 1994 there were three principal vendors of nmr instmmentation in the U.S., Bmker Instmments (Billerica, Mass.), JEOL USA, Inc. (Peabody, Mass.), and Varian Associates (Palo Alto, Calif.). Details of instmmentation are best obtained directly from manufacturers. A schematic illustrating the principal components of a ft/nmr spectrometer is shown in Eigure 3. [Pg.400]

In this work, a method based on the reduction potential of ascorbic acid was developed for the sensitive detennination of trace of this compound. In this method ascorbic acid was added on the Cr(VI) solution to reduced that to Cr(III). Cr(III) produced in solution was quantitatively separated from the remainder of Cr(VI). The conditions were optimized for efficient extraction of Cr(III). The extracted Cr(III) was finally mineralized with nitric acid and sensitively analyzed by electro-thermal atomic absorption spectrometry. The determinations were carried out on a Varian AA-220 atomic absolution equipped with a GTA-110 graphite atomizer. The results obtained by this method were compared with those obtained by the other reported methods and it was cleared that the proposed method is more precise and able to determine the trace of ascorbic acid. Table shows the results obtained from the determination of ascorbic acid in two real samples by the proposed method and the spectrometric method based on reduction of Fe(III). [Pg.154]

There are several suppliers of electron accelerators suitable for remote repair of composites, including Varian, Siemans, and Schonberg. At present, the only manufacturer of suitable portable electron accelerators is Schonberg Radiation Corporation of Santa Clara, California. Field repair of damaged aircraft components can be accomplished with a remotely controlled, truck-mounted accelerator. Table 13 gives the characteristics for several electron accelerators, all portable, supplied by Schonberg. Fig. 5 shows a schematic layout of a 10-MeV accelerator... [Pg.1030]

Cyclitol Spectra at 220 MHz with the Superconducting Solenoid. In 1964, Nelson and Weaver (34) at Varian Associates constructed a superconducting solenoid with which proton spectra can be observed at 51.7 kilogauss (220 MHz.) or even higher fields. Other nuclei have been observed at suitable field/frequency combinations. [Pg.57]

The 220 MHz spectra shown in the figures were recorded at Varian Associates (see Acknowledgement) on their Model HRSC-IX or -220 Spectrometer. [Pg.58]

All P.M.R. spectra were measured with a Varian HA 100 spectrometer operating in the frequency-sweep mode with tetramethylsilane as the reference for the internal lock. The double and triple resonance experiments were performed using a Hewlett Packard 200 CD audio-oscillator and a modified Hewlett Packard 200 AB audio-oscillator (vide infra). Spectra were measured using whichever sweep width was required to ensure adequate resolution of the multiplets under investigation, generally 250 or 100 Hz, and sweep rates were selected as necessary. Extensive use was made of the Difference 1 and Difference 2 calibration modes of the instrument, both for the decoupling experiments and for the calibration of normal spectra. [Pg.237]

Na Influx Studies. Na influx was monitored according to the procedure of Owen and Villereal (34), with some modifications. Cells were seeded onto 60-mm culture dishes, grown, and serum starved as described for the assays above. The cells were washed with incubation media and incubated in 3 ml of the appropriate agent at 37 C. After incubation the cells were rapidly washed in ice cold 0.1 mM MgCL and extracted with 5% TCA/0.5% KNO3 for sodium determination or 0.2% SDS for protein determination. Sodium concentration was measured using a Varian Model 275 Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer. Protein was determined fluorimetrically. [Pg.206]
