Two-parent family

In two 1990s studies of high schools in Illinois, published in the November 2000 issue of the American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse, researchers found that white and Hispanic teens from strong, two-parent families were less likely to abuse inhalants than those from single-parent families and that Asian students whose academic performance was poor were more likely to use inhalants than high-achievers were.

Biochemical Analysis> The second principal use of cultured amniotic fluid cells is to determine the biochemical status of the fetus. Another factor in the ADHD/Ritalin boom in the United States may be the disintegration of the family and the pressure of working in the corporate environment. The American family has changed dramatically over the last few decades. It is no longer composed of two parents and children with a close extended family nearby for support. Today, the nuclear family has shrunk to two parents and the children or to one parent and the children. The extended family now often refers to remarried parents, each of whom brings his or her own children to the mixture. This type of extended family, with so many conflicting needs as part of its very nature, may not be the ideal situation for giving individual attention to every child. 

Trypsin and factor Xa (fXa) are two members of the chymotrypsin family that have 38% sequence identity on the amino acid level and have distinguishable substrate specificities. Recently, the N-terminal 13-barrel of fXa and the C-terminal /3-barrel of trypsin were fused at a rationally designed site in the linker region between the two domains in order to create a hybrid fXa-trypsin protease (Hopfner et al., 1998). The fXa-trypsin hybrid was highly active and more active than either parent on three of the ten substrates assayed, as determined by k /Km. For most substrates, the activity of fXa-trypsin was an admixture of the two parents, probably because trypsin had higher activity than fXa for all the substrates tested. 

The limitations of DNA shuffling, arising from its dependency on sequence identity, have motivated the development of new technologies to facilitate an unbiased sampling of sequence space. At present, the reported approaches for creating sequence-independent hybrid libraries between two parental sequences include a family of methods collectively known as Incremental Truncation for the Creation of Hybrid enzYmes (ITCHY) [72,95,96] and Sequence-Homology Independent Protein RECom-bination (SHIPREC) [91].

In a two-parent household, a lot may be done for the only child. Satisfying his or her desires often becomes a primary focus of parental concern. In a single-parent family, however, indulgence of the only child tends to be qualified... 

All states are required to meet the following work requirements at least 50% of TANF families and 90% of families with two parents must participate in work activities (42 USC 607 (a)). States can acquire what is called a case reduction credit that means percentage reductions in case numbers can be subtracted on a percentage point-for-point basis from the state s work requirement rates. Because most states had negative work participation rates, Congress changed the basis year for calculating the case reduction credit from 1995 to 2005 recently ( 7102 (a) of P.L. 109-171). 

The word famil) can mean different things... in this country, when social policy makers refer to the family, they commonly mean the nuclear family, involving two parents and their children. 

When we studied the compositional distribution of six genes (or small multigene families) and one family of transposable elements, Tntl, in DNA fractions from tobacco Nicotiana tabacum) separated according to base composition, we could show that gene distribution is bimodal and that such bimodality is due to the different base composition of the two parental genomes of tobacco N. sylvestris and N. tomentosiformis) and to the different parental origin of the genes tested (Matassi et al., 1991). 

The branching narrative of resistance offered above does not do justice to the vexed discursive relations between race and sexuality in the politics of multiracialism.
