Plastic Tubes

A comparative evaluation of haemodialysis tubing plasticized with di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate and with tri-2-ethylhexyl trimellitate was made in 11 patients (10 men, one woman) with chronic renal failure on haemodialysis for a period of six months. During treatment with tubing containing di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, the plasma level of di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate rose from 0.10 mg/L (range, < 0.05-0.17) to 0.70 mg/L (range, 0.30-1.6) (detection limit, 0.05 mg/L) (Christensson etal., 1991). [Pg.56]

If the percentage of sulfur is 1-5%, a soft rubber is produced. Soft rubber is used in the production of shoe soles, car inner tubes, plastic gloves and many more different products. The rubber used in car tyres is produced if the proportion of sulphur is 30-50%. [Pg.72]

Two-site immunometric or sandwich assays that made use of two or more antibodies directed at different parts of the PRL molecule were next to be developed. As with other two-site IRMA assays, the capture antibody is attached to a solid phase separation system and the second or signal antibody is labeled with a detection molecule (e.g., radio-isotope, enzyme, fluorophor, or chemiluminescence tag ). In some assays, the capture antibody is attached to the wall of test tubes, plastic beads, microtiter plates, ferromagnetic particles, or glass-fiber paper. Other assays have used the strep-avidin approach that couples biotin to the signal antibody with avidin linked to a solid phase. Most of the current immunometric assays for PRL have been adapted to fully automated immunoassay systems. Compared with the older traditional RIA methods, these automated immunometric assays for PRL generally achieve lower detection limits (0.2 to 1.0 ig/L) and improved precision (interlaboratory coefficients of variation of <8% at all concentrations), and have superior specificity (<0.05% crossreactivity with GH). [Pg.1980]

The purpose of the sulfuric acid is to dry the nitrogen gas and to show how fast it is bubbling into the apparatus. The other hole has a short section of glass tubing. Plastic tubing is attached to this tubing and leads to the vacuum nipple of the vacuum adapter. [Pg.34]

The forms of plastic supports for ElA may be varied beads, discs, tubes, plastic-coated toothpicks, matchsticks, and even cocktail stirrers (Shekarchi et al., 1982). Undoubtably, many other utensils could be used for this purpose. However, the most common supports are polystyrene or polyvinylchloride (PVC) microtitre plates with 12x8 wells of 0.3 ml. Although PVC plates may adsorb IgG more... [Pg.311]

Because of its sensitivity, the technique is very responsive to contamination and high background interference. Any material that contains a semi-volatile organic compound which could come in contact with the sample will cause interference. Such materials include plastic tubing, plastic bottle tops, liners in bottle caps, GC vial septa, rubber components in gas regulators, impure carrier gas, and impurities dissolved in extractant solvents from the laboratory atmosphere among others. [Pg.330]

Ophthalmic products, eyedrops in single-dose and multi-dose presentations, and eye ointments in multi-dose presoiOtfions are aseplically manufactured. So also are some other topical products. Glass eyedrop bottles are now less oooiHiion than plastic ones aluminum ointment tubes arc still more commonly used for sterile products than plastic tubes. Plastic caps are almost universally used. [Pg.181]

All types of broken glasswares exclusively should be thrown into a covered metallic bin. A lot of inflammable materials, for instance paper, empty cartons, soiled tissue-papers, cloth pieces that may have been used to clean up inflammable liquids, used pieces of sponge, urethane-foam used as packing materials, used filter papers, empty card-board boxes, discarded rubber-tubings, plastic bags, cotton etc., must be stored into a separate bin. [Pg.9]

In the most widely used solid-phase methods no centrifugation step is required. The commercially available kits for steroids contain the antibody (or the second antibody, in the double-antibody technique) immobilized on the walls of a tube, plastic beads, sticks, or membranes. [Pg.2104]

Blood sample collection is potentially a major source of contamination. Needles, glass vacuum tubes, plastic syringes, anticoagulants, plastic tubes, and other equipment used in standard venipuncture methods are all suspect as sources of aluminum contamination. Each piece must be checked for aluminum contribution to the specimen. [Pg.223]

To avoid the hazards of a vial rupturing upon removal from the liquid nitrogen, glass vials on canes should always be protected by covers of cardboard safety tubes. Plastic vials may be pulled partially out of the freezer and held in the neck of the freezer for one minute to allow equilibration before complete withdrawal. Draping a towel or a piece of bench liner around the cane as it is removed is also recommended (491). [Pg.21]

Phthalate plasticizers have been under attack by environmentalist groups in the wake of a U.K. report by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, which found traces of the material in baby formula imlk, coupled with concerns about reproductive (estrogenic) effects. It was speculated that flexible PVC tubing plasticized with phthalates may have been responsible for the baby formula contamination, but the source remained obscure. ... [Pg.483]
