So, training your personnel when to walk away becomes very important. And what they do when they walk away also becomes very important. Even the direction workers are expected to take can be important. The training performed and documentation of this training are also important.

Initially an optimised model was constructed using the data collected as outlined above by constructing a principal component (PC)-fed linear discriminant analysis (LDA) model (described elsewhere) [7, 89], The linear discriminant function was calculated for maximal group separation and each individual spectral measurement was projected onto the model (using leave-one-out cross-validation) to obtain a score. The scores for each individual spectrum projected onto the model and colour coded for consensus pathology are shown in Fig. 13.3. The simulation experiments used this optimised model as a baseline to compare performance of models with spectral perturbations applied to them. The optimised model training performance achieved 93% accuracy overall for the three groups. 

A support program to maintain validation shonld be identified. It should include procedures for change control, maintenance and calibration, secnrity practices, contingency planning, operating procedures, training, performance monitoring, and periodic review. Operation and maintenance is discussed further in Chapter 12.

The main point about accreditation is that the laboratory must be able to satisfy an independent outside official body that the work it does is consistently of a quality appropriate for the purpose intended. So, a laboratory that is accredited for some or all of its work, is subject to regular inspections by the accreditation agency. The laboratory has to keep extensive documentation to show that all the requirements of the specifications for accreditation are met on a continuous basis. For example, it has to keep up to date evidence of staff competence and training, performance of equipment and the test results for reference samples (see the UKAS website http Iwww.ukas.com). 

After installation of the system it should be qualified. The extent of the qualification should depend on the complexity of the system. The system should be evaluated and performance qualification, change control, maintenance and calibration, security, contingency planning, SOPs, training, performance monitoring and periodic re-evaluation should be addressed.

The present case study damaged coolant pump , cf. Fig. 2, includes an overall of = 364 damage cases from the field (customer use phase) out of a production lot of 3.400 units.
