The goals of the F EI are to raise awareness of loss potential and identify ways to reduce potential severity and potential dollar loss in a cost-effective manner. The ECL also provides the State pesticide laboratories with technical and QA support and training in pesticide analytical chemistry. 

An organized document filing system must be maintained. This could be a paper file, an electronic document file, or a mixture of both. The equipment inventory system contains key information on the components of each system, their performance criteria and maintenance and calibration status. All documents including installation and performance documentation, as with other documents necessary to demonstrate the quality of the data, include SOPs for the qualification procedures, calibration, maintenance, personnel training, etc. If the manufacturer s operating, service, or maintenance manuals are used or cited in the operating procedures, copies of these manuals should be maintained. To facilitate retrieval, documentation should be stored in a central location and be indexed for easy retrieval. 

Is the patient hemodynamically stable If not, admit to the intensive care unit for ongoing treatment and monitoring. A PA catheter (or CVP catheter) should be inserted by trained medical personnel. Monitor PAOP to a goal pressure of 14 to 18 mm Hg and minimum cardiac index of 2.2 L/minute per square meter (alternatively CVP 8 to 15 cm H20).

The results of data treatment are documented and evaluated in ES 5 and the interpretation in ES 6 is guided by the analyst s constraints and requirements. For instance, simple visual pattern comparisions may be acceptable for sample identification, or a combined database (GC-FTIR/GC-MS), (PGC/FTIR), (GC/TA), etc., analysis may be required. Judgmental decisions must be trained into the system as to depth of analysis, its acceptability and reliability (e.g., the hit quality index (HQI) of the MS search combined with that from the FTIR search may confirm within a 95% confidence level the GC peak or sample identity). 

In this demonstration of a Fourier series we will use only cosine waves to reproduce the shadow image of the black squares. The examples from SciFinder and the Merck Index are not intended to question the quality of these products, which we consider to be outstanding. They are invaluable resources to many chemists worldwide, and the error rate in these two databases is insignificant if one takes into account the enormous volume of indexed data. One of us has published a structure-activity paper on HIV-protease inhibitors [31] where a modified peptide was present in both the training set and the test set. Al Leo of Pomona College has recently [32] detected 100 chemical and name errors in the printed version of the sixth edition of Burger s Medicinal Chemistry [33], errors that will be corrected in the on-line edition [34]. One can never be too careful in verifying the available information, in particular if one is to invest a significant amount of resources in that area.
