Terminal Poly A

Cellular mRNA molecules carry a poly (A) tail of between 30-200 residues in length (for review, see Brawerman, 1981). In intact mRNA, the poly (A) sequence is masked by proteins (Bergmann and Brawerman, 1977). There is no absolute requirement for poly (A), for mRNA species exist that lack it, such as sea urchin histone mRNA (Grunstein and Schedl, 1976). Moreover, globin mRNA from which the poly (A) is removed is as active a template for in vitro translation as is native globin mRNA (Soreq et al., 1974 Sippel et al., 1974). [Pg.105]

Similarly, 3-(dimethylamino)propyllithium has been used by Eisenbach and co-workers (128, 129) to prepare tertiary amine-terminated poly(a-methylstyrene) polymers. However, primary amine-ended polymers have tended to elude synthesis by organolithium methods because primary amine hydrogens "kill living lithio macromolecules (120). [Pg.92]

A composition comprising a Ceo fullerene-terminated poly(A-[(propylphenyl]-AA, A -triphenyl-(l,l - biphenyl)-4,4 -diamine)methacrylate has been prepared by living radical polymerization. When blended with a plasticizer and a nonlinear chromophore, photorefractive efficiencies were improved by up to 9% at abiased voltage of 60 V/pm. [Pg.458]

The depolymerization mechanism from the polymer end has been recently revisited in the design of positive electron beam resists. 2-Phenylallyl-termi-nated poly(a-methylstyrene) was prepared by living anionic polymerization, which exhibited a significantly lower depolymerization temperature on TGA than the H-terminated counterpart [340]. The 2-phenylallyl-terminated polymer depolymerized completely when treated with n-BuLi in THF at room temperature. A single-component resist (without PAG) formulated with the 2-phenylallyl-terminated poly(a-methylstyrene) demonstrated a higher e-beam sensitivity (500 pC/cm2 at 20 keV) than the one based on the H-terminated polymer when developed with methanol/methyl isobutyl ketone (2/3 vol/vol) [340]. However, the sensitivity of the non-catalyzed single-component system... [Pg.144]

The polymerization of vinyl chloride monomer, in common with other vinyl monomers, proceeds by a free-radical mechanism involving the usual steps of initiation, propagation, and termination. Poly(vinyl chloride) is formed in a regular head-to-tail manner Eq. (1) [3-6]. [Pg.318]

Nitriles react with alcohols in the presence of hydrochloric acid to form iminoester hydrochlorides, which are hydrolyzed to the esters (Pinner synthesis). Heitz and coworkers [21-23] published several fine papers on the polyazoester synthesis from the reaction of a series of poly(oxyethylene) glycol or poly(oxypropylene) glycol and AIBN in the presence of dry hydrochloric acid at 0-5°C according to Pinner synthesis. Condensation reactions of ACPC and dihydroxy terminated poly(oxy-ethylene) glycol yield polyazoesters [24,25]. [Pg.728]

Polyaddition reactions based on isocyanate-terminated poly(ethylene glycol)s and subsequent block copolymerization with styrene monomer were utilized for the impregnation of wood [54]. Hazer [55] prepared block copolymers containing poly(ethylene adipate) and po-ly(peroxy carbamate) by an addition of the respective isocyanate-terminated prepolymers to polyazoesters. By both bulk and solution polymerization and subsequent thermal polymerization in the presence of a vinyl monomer, multiblock copolymers could be formed. [Pg.741]

Generation of radicals by redox reactions has also been applied for synthesizing block copolymers. As was mentioned in Section II. D. (see Scheme 23), Ce(IV) is able to form radical sites in hydroxyl-terminated compounds. Thus, Erim et al. [116] produced a hydroxyl-terminated poly(acrylamid) by thermal polymerization using 4,4-azobis(4-cyano pentanol). The polymer formed was in a second step treated with ceric (IV) ammonium nitrate, hence generating oxygen centered radicals capable of starting a second free radical polymeriza-... [Pg.751]

The eukaryotic expression cassette is the part of an expression vector that enables production of a protein in a eukaryotic cell. The cassette consists of a eukaryotic promoter for mRNA transcription, the gene and an mRNA termination and processing signal (Poly-A signal). [Pg.486]

Hie most representative member of this class of polyesters is the low-molar-mass (M 1000-3000) hydroxy-terminated aliphatic poly(2,2/-oxydiethylene adipate) obtained by esterification between adipic acid and diethylene glycol. This oligomer is used as a macromonomer in the synthesis of polyurethane elastomers and flexible foams by reaction with diisocyanates (see Chapter 5). Hydroxy-terminated poly(f -caprolactonc) and copolyesters of various diols or polyols and diacids, such as o-phthalic acid or hydroxy acids, broaden the range of properties and applications of polyester polyols. [Pg.29]

Poly(poly(alkylene terephthalate)-Woc -poly(oxyalkylene)) thermoplastic elastomers are prepared by the bulk polycondensation of dimethyl terephthalate with a mixture of 1,4-alkanediol and hydroxy-terminated poly(oxyalkylene) in... [Pg.108]

An amine-terminated poly ether (ATPE) is prepared as follows. Charge poly(tetramethylene oxide) diol (PolyTHF 1000, BASF, 75.96 g, 0.0759 m) to a 500-mL three-neck round-bottom flask fitted with a thermocouple, a mechanical stirrer, and a vacuum port. Add tert-butylacetoacetate (24.04 g, 0.1582 m) and apply vacuum. Heat at 175° C for 4 h, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analysis should indicate complete loss of the polyol OH absorption at 3300 cm. The room temperature viscosity of the product should be about 520 mPa-s. React this acetoacetylated product (85.5 g, 0.0649 m) with cyclohexylamine (14.5 g, 0.1465 m) at 110° C under vacuum for several hours. Cool the resultant cyclohexylaminocrotonate poly ether product to room temperature (1790 mPa-s at room temperature). [Pg.255]

Anionic polymerization of lactams was shown to proceed according to what is called the activated monomer mechanism. With bischloroformates of hydroxy-terminated poly(tetramethyleneglycol) and poly(styrene glycol) as precursors for a polymeric initiator containing N-acyl lactam ends, block copolymers with n-pyrrol-idone and e-caprolactam were obtained by bulk polymerizations in vacuum at 30 and 80 °C, respectively361. ... [Pg.30]

Hydrosilation reactions have been one of the earlier techniques utilized in the preparation of siloxane containing block copolymers 22,23). A major application of this method has been in the synthesis of polysiloxane-poly(alkylene oxide) block copolymers 23), which find extensive applications as emulsifiers and stabilizers, especially in the urethane foam formulations 23-43). These types of reactions are conducted between silane (Si H) terminated siloxane oligomers and olefinically terminated poly-(alkylene oxide) oligomers. Consequently the resulting system contains (Si—C) linkages between different segments. Earlier developments in the field have been reviewed 22, 23,43> Recently hydrosilation reactions have been used effectively by Ringsdorf 255) and Finkelmann 256) for the synthesis of various novel thermoplastic liquid crystalline copolymers where siloxanes have been utilized as flexible spacers. Introduction of flexible siloxanes also improved the processibility of these materials. [Pg.46]

As mentioned above, mammahan mRNA molecules contain a 7-methylguanosine cap structure at their 5 terminal, and most have a poly(A) tail at the 3 terminal. The cap stmcmre is added to the 5 end of the newly transcribed mRNA precursor in the nucleus prior to transport of the mELNA molecule to the cytoplasm. The S cap of the RNA transcript is required both for efficient translation initiation and protection of the S end of mRNA from attack by S —> S exonucleases. The secondary methylations of mRNA molecules, those on the 2 -hydroxy and the N of adenylyl residues, occur after the mRNA molecule has appeared in the cytoplasm. [Pg.355]
