Other above-ground continuous flow systems have been designed and operated for SCWO processes. A system developed by ModeU Development Corp. (Modec) uses a tubular reactor and can be operated at temperatures above 500°C. It employs a pressure letdown system in which soHd, Hquids, and gases are separated prior to pressure release. This simplifies valve design and material selection on the Hquid leg. [Pg.502]

Figure 2-60 shows a classification system developed by the Lower Mississippi Valley-Division, U.S. Corps of Engineers. Percentages are based on dry weight. A mixture with 50% or more clay is classified as clay with 80% or more silt, as silt and with 80% or more sand, as sand. A mixture with 40% clay and 40% sand is a sandy clay. A mixture with 25% clay and 65% silt is a clay-silt (see intersection of dashed lines in Figure 2-60). [Pg.269]

General. We have studied the characterization of multicomponent materials by combining modem analytical instrumentation with a commercially available AI expert system development tool. Information generated from selected analytical databases may be accessed using TIMM, ( The Intelligent Machine Model, ) available from General Research Corp., McLean, VA. This Fortran expert system shell has enabled development of EXMAT, a heuristically-1inked network of expert systems for materials analysis. [Pg.366]

Separation of five compounds (DL, 6-OH-DL, 3-OH-DL, 7V-OH-DL, and 1-pyridine-/V-oxide-DL) was achieved using an Alliance HPLC system (Waters Corp., Milford, CA) equipped with a 2690 model pump, an autoinjector, a Polaris Cl8-A guard column (Varian Inc., Lake Forest, CA), and a Luna Phenyl-Hexyl analytical column (Phenomenex, Inc., Torrance, CA) maintained at 40°C. For robust characterization of each isomeric compound, an online HDX LC-MS method was developed. The composition of regular and deuterated mobile phases is summarized below ... [Pg.299]

E. F. Kondis (Mobil Research Development Corp., Paulsboro, N. J. 08066) We confirmed some of the trends in nonisothermal results which you report. Our data are in a flow system and hence discount the possibility of heat effects caused by expansion of gas using your Cahn instrument. [Pg.170]

Typically, ELISA assays only measure one cytokine at a time. Depending on the application, this may be a disadvantage, because it may be desirable to measure more than one cytokine. This disadvantage has been overcome with the development and appearance of the multiplexed analytical systems that are capable of measuring several cytokines at once. An example of such a system is the Luminex 100/xMAP analytical system (Luminex Corp., Austin, Texas) http //www.luminexcorp.com), which is capable of measuring more than 70 cytokines simultaneously. With this system, molecular reactions take place on the surface microspheres. For each reaction in an xMAP profile, thousands of... [Pg.722]

The methanol route is highly selective towards production of liquid transportation fuels. Only a very small amount of hydrocarbons beyond C are produced. The process uses a zeolite catalyst, developed by Mobil Research and Development Corp. (MRDC), USA. The final gasoline produced does not need further refining a nd attains the quality of unleaded premium gasoline. The world s first commercial synfuel plant for the production of gasoline from natural gas via methanol has been constructed in New Zealand and went successfully onstream in late 1985. The capacity is 570,000 tonnes of gasoline per year. The MTG reaction system is an adiabatic fixed bed version. [Pg.274]

A new process that converts propylene and water to diisopropyl ether (DIPE) was developed by Mobil Research Development Corp. DIPE is a high-octane gasoline blending agent which, unlike other ethers, utilizes propylene in its synthesis. The DIPE reaction takes place in a fixed-bed catalytic reactor via a series of reaction steps. Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) is an intermediate which is recycled within the process. A propane/propylene splitter is included in the feed purification section to increase the concentration of propylene in the feed and maximize the DIPE production. DIPE utilizes propylene from the refinery and does not depend on an outside supply of alcohol. DIPE has similar octane blending values of RON and MON as other ethers like MTBE and TAME. DIPE also has a lower Reid vapor pressure than that of MTBE. DIPE is virtually nontoxic and has not caused adverse systemic effects or tissue toxicity [66]. [Pg.173]

After reviewing a number of AI languages and expert system development shells we chose one called KDS (40) for Knowledge Delivery Systems from the KDS Corp. in Wilmette, Illinois to serve as a development tool. The choice was based on consideration of price/performance, ability to run on a PC, ease of use and lastly -the developer, Barbara Wallace, consistently answered the phone and fielded our questions patiently and competently. In addition, the KDS product has seen a steady stream of improvements and enhancements which make it a very powerful tool for a very competitive price. It is written in Assembly language, which makes it fast and compact. [Pg.136]

Expert systems technology can be useful. We have demonstrated the ease of use and logic-documentation capabilities of a prototype using the UN flow chart and the KDS expert system development software. KDS Corp personnel have also demonstrated the relative ease with which our Loss Prevention Data Sheets can be represented in expert systems format. They will be happy to explain their demo "PEROX" based on our D.S. 7-81 (48). At present, however, the "PEROX" demo has been neither funded nor endorsed by the FM System. [Pg.141]

However, the use of domestic microwave ovens can pose serious hazards in the application of microwave energy to flammable organic compounds (such as solvents). For that reason, ad hoc commercial devices were developed using only the 2450 MHz frequency. Noticeable contributions to expand the use of microwaves as an alternative to conventional methods have been reported by Lopez-Avilla. The authors used a MES-1000 microwave sample extraction system (GEM Corp., Matthews, NC) as shown in Figure 22.7. It uses the technology with closed vessels under... [Pg.824]

A method of just-in-time production that uses standard containers or lot sizes with a single card attached to each. It is a pull system in which work centers signal with a card that they wish to withdraw parts from feeding operations or suppliers. The Japanese word Kanban, loosely translated, means card, billboard, or sign. The term is often used synonymously for the specific scheduling system developed and used by Toyota Corp. in Japan. The FS system developed by CIBA Additives seems to be a breakthrough for color-critical PO applications. These new systems do not contain phenolic antioxidants so they provide good color stability and gas fade resistance, long term thermal, and UV light stability. They improve the activity of the HAS. Doverphos HiPure 4, introduced by Dover Chem. Corp, is a high purity processing and heat stabilizer, cost effective, and FDA approved for food contact applications and medical devices. [Pg.541]

The sulfinol process is a development by the Shell Development Corp., in Emoryville, California (U.S. Patent 3,352,631). 2 solution consists of sulfolane (C4H8SO2), which is a ring compound, diisopropanol-amine, and water. This process is characterized by its high CO2 retention under pressure and by low steam requirements for regeneration. A sidestream regenerator is required to remove by-products that build up in the system. See U.S. Patent 3,347,621. ... [Pg.1082]
