In the upper diagram each supplier individually interprets the customer s requirements and either imposes additional requirements or neglects to pass on requirements. The net result at the end of the chain is that the external customer (the one who buys from the organization) does not get satisfaction from the transaction. In the lower diagram, each supplier refers back to the external customer s requirements to calibrate the internal customer s demands. This ensures that the net result matches exactly what the customer ordered. In reality, such calibration should not be necessary if the internal customers demonstrate traceability to external customer requirements. This can be achieved through process reviews performed in each process before instructions are transmitted to subsequent processes.

These trends are notable for the plants proposed to be offered immediately or in the near future. For the longer term, some suppliers referred to on-going development work on inherently safe smaller reactors but also stated that these could not be offered for bids until well into the next decade.

The standards for tests, which are cited in reference to the standards for characteristics. In order for a client and his supplier to compare their results during a commercial transaction, it is important that their laboratories rigorously follow the same operating procedures. The procedures are thus precisely defined in the standards. 

A specification or standard for product characteristics is valid only if it is matched with references to well defined and recognized test methods, such that quality control tests conducted by the parties involved —client and supplier, for example— are comparable even if they are performed at different locations.

The quick reference Table 19-8 will help by way of rapid elimination of poor possibihties. Following that the brief comments and illustrations will help pinpoint most probable selections. Further study of the more elaborate data in the references and contact with the usual suppliers are recommended, as there are many possible modifications of equipment which can improve operating results from any type of machine finally selected. 

The family of short curves in Fig. 29-45 shows the power efficiency of conventional refrigeration systems. The curves for the latter are taken from the Engineering Data Book, Gas Processors Suppliers Association, Tulsa, Oklahoma. The data refer to the evaporator temperature as the point at which refrigeration is removed. If the refrigeration is used to cool a stream over a temperature interval, the efficiency is obviously somewhat less. The short curves in Fig. 29-45 are for several refrigeration-temperature intervals. A comparison of these curves with the expander curve shows that the refrigeration power requirement by expansion compares favorably with mechanical refrigeration below 360° R (—100° F). The expander efficiency is favored by lower temperature at which heat is to be removed.

A recent reference [1] lists twenty suppliers of structural acrylic adhesives. Many other companies have been involved in this area, and it is often felt that acrylic adhesives have unrealized technical potential [2]. Acrylic adhesives are not commonly found in the consumer market, but fill an important niche there in the bonding of rear view mirrors to windshields in automobiles. 

Solutions. Two substances on the list, ammonium nitrate and ammonium sulfate, are qualified by the term solution," which refers to the physical state of these chemicals. Solid, molten, and pelletized forms of these chemicals are exempt from threshold and release determinations. Only facilities that manufacture, process, or otherwise use these chemicals in the form of a solution are required to report. Supplier notification applies only if the chemical is distributed as a solution. 

Applicable Codes, Standards and References - This information will help the supplier in his specification of design persformance and guarantees. 

The standard requires the supplier to prepare a quality manual covering the requirements of the standard and also requires the quality manual to include or make reference to the quality system procedures and outline the structure of the documentation used in the system. 

ISO 9001 requires consideration to be given to the preparation of quality plans. However, the supplementary requirement in ISO/TS 16949 requires the supplier to have a quality plan which includes customers requirements and references to appropriate technical specifications. 

The standard requires the supplier to use tools and techniques identified in the customer reference manual on advanced product quality planning. 

The standard requires the supplier to prepare plans for each design and development activify which describe or reference these activities and define responsibility for their im piemen ta tion.
