Sulfuric acid, incompatibilities with

Incandescent reaction with fluorine. Reacts to form pyrophoric or explosive products with bromine trifluoride, trifluoromethyl hypofluorite. Mixtures with formamide + iodine + sulfur trioxide are storage hazards, releasing carbon dioxide and sulfuric acid. Incompatible with oxidizing materials. [Pg.1195]

Violent reaction with benzoyl chloride combined with KOH, Bt2, barium carbonate, CS2, Cr(OCl)2, Cu, Pb, HNO3, BaCOs, H2SO4, hot water, (CH3)2S04, dibromomalononitrile, sulfuric acid. Incompatible with acids, ammonium chloride + trichloroacetonitrile, phosgene, cyanuric chloride, 2,5-dinitro-3-methylbenzoic acid + oleum, trifiuroroacryloyl chloride. Reacts with heavy metals (e.g., brass, copper, lead) to form dangerously explosive heavy metal azides, a particular problem in laboratory equipment and drain traps. DOT CLASSIFICATION Forbidden SAFETY PROFILE Mercury compounds are poisons. An explosive sensitive to friction, impact, heating, or contact with sulfuric acid. Incompatible with sulfuric acid. COPPER (7440-50-8) Cu The powder forms the friction-, heat-, or shock-sensitive explosive detonator, copper acetylide, with acetylene gas acetylenic compounds and ethylene oxides. The powder forms explosive materials with azides (e.g., sodium azide forms potentially explosive copper azide). Finely divided material forms friction-, heat-, or shock-sensitive explosive with powdered divided bromates, chlorates, and iodates of barimn, calcimn, magnesium, potassium, sodium, or zinc. Violent reaction, possibly explosive, when finely dispersed powder comes in contact with strong oxidizers ammonium nitrate alkynes, bromine vapor, calcium carbide, chlorine, ethylene oxide, hydrazine mononitrate, hydrogen peroxide, hydrogen sulfide, finely divided bromates, iodine, lead azide, potassium peroxide, sodium peroxide (incandescence), sulfuric acid. Incompatible with acids, anhydrous ammonia chemically active metals such as potassium, sodium, magnesium, and zinc, zirconium, strong bases. [Pg.278]

ETHER, VINYL ETHYL (109-92-2) C4HgO Highly flammable, polymerizable liquid. Forms explosive mixture with air [explosion limits in air (vol %) 1.7 to 28 flash point <-50°F/<-46°C autoignition tenqj 395°F/202°C Fire Rating 4]. Forms unstable peroxides on contact with air. Reacts violently with oxidizers, ammonium persulfate, bromine dioxide, methane sulfonic acid (may cause polymerization), nitric acid, perchlorates, permanganates, peroxides and hydroperoxides, sulfuric acid. Incompatible with acids, ammonia, aliphatic amines, alkanolamines. On small fires, use dry chemical powder (such as Purple-K-Powder), alcohol-resistant foam, or COj extinguishers. [Pg.445]

CHLORINE FLUORIDE OXIDE (7616-94-6) Noncombustible, but many chemical reactions can cause fire and explosions. A powerful oxidizer. Reacts violently with reducing materials, alcohols, alkalis, amines, anilines, benzene, butyl-amine, calcium hydride, calcium acetylide, charcoal, combustible materials, ethers, hydrazine, hydrogen sulfide, finely divided metals, nitric oxide, olefins, orgtinic substances, potassium cyanide, potassium thiocyanate, sodium, strontium hydride, sulfur, sulfur dichloride, sulfuric acid. Incompatible with hydrogen sulfide, potassium thiocyanate, vinylidene chloride. Forms heat-, friction-, and shock-sensitive explosives with calcium hydride, nitrogenous bases, isopropylamine. Dust or powder forms explosive mixture with air. A strong reducing agent Reacts violently with strong oxidizers, alkalis, ammonia, ammonium persulfate, bromine dioxide, lead dioxide, nitric acid, perchlorates, permanganates, peroxides, sulfuric acid.
