Alcohol-resistant Foams

Foams that are suitable for water-soluble polar solvents are formulated to produce a bubble that is stable in those fuels and tends to mix and unite with water. Fuels of this type dissolve the water contained in regular foam very rapidly, resulting in the collapse of [Pg.188]

ALCOHOL-RESISTANT FOAM Foam for usc against fires involving liquids miscible with water, e.g. alcohol, acetone. [Pg.10]

FIRE Combustible. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire. NO open flames. Powder, alcohol-resistant foam, water spray, carbon dioxide. [Pg.57]

The use of aqueous foams to control fume or vapour release from reactive chemicals is discussed. An acid-resistant foam NF2 controlled fume emission from 35% and 65% oleum, and from titanium tetrachloride, but was not effective for sulfur trioxide and chlorosulfuric acid. An alcohol-resistant foam NF1 suppressed ammonia vapour emission by 80%, and Universal fire foam reduced evaporation of ethylene oxide, vinyl chloride and methanethiol, and reduced vapour emission of 1,3-butadiene by 60%. Safety aspects of foam blanketing are discussed [1]. Equipment and application techniques are covered in some detail [2],... [Pg.160]

Information on solubility is important in an emergency situation because a petroleum fire will require the application of a regular-type foam or an alcohol-resistant-type foam for extinguishment or for vapor-suppression purposes. For use on a water-soluble liquid, a good-quality alcohol-resistant foam is generally applied. [Pg.192]

Flash point, 50°C ignition temperature, 438°C. Flammable limits, 2-8%. Extinguish fire with water spray, dry powder, carbon dioxide or alcohol-resistant foam.2... [Pg.20]

Diflubenzuron is not flammable. If diflubenzuron is involved in a small fire, the fire should be extinguished with carbon dioxide, dry powder, or alcohol-resistant foam. [Pg.854]

Dry chemical, C02 water spray or alcohol-resistant foam. [Pg.382]

Dry chemical, COz, alcohol-resistant foam or water spray. [Pg.441]

C02 (except for Cyanides), dry chemical, dry sand, alcohol-resistant foam. [Pg.456]
