Steel construction plan

The steel industry is also looking into new ways to utilize high-strength steel in the construction of motor vehicles in order to reduce vehicle mass. Other developments are steel-plastic sandwich structures and innovative manufacturing processes. The American Iron and Steel Institute plans an advanced concept vehicle project targeted to meet the 2004 PNGV vehicle and crash requirement. [Pg.76]

Now the individual foundations for the main apparatuses can be provided for. These are often concrete foundations which are about 10 to 20 cm higher than the floor. In the case of steel constructions, the relevant crossbeams for the claws, frames, legs etc. have to be planned. Then the design of the main devices will follow. Vessels, reactors, heat exchangers, silos etc. are mostly cylindrical components. The application of modern CAD-systems requires only the following entries to determine at least the casing ... [Pg.148]

On the following pages, examples (Figures 4.28 and 4.29) for a steel construction and formwork plan are described. [Pg.152]

Here, special caution is advised. The site management should be urged to pay attention to the compliance with the specifications of the released HVAC-plans by the company assigned with the installation of the HVAC-facilities. It has to be taken into consideration that, at that point in time, the building or steel construction is still completely empty. Sometimes, plumbers wonder why they should, for example, lay a supply line around three corners although the direct connection would be much easier. Here, they ignore the fact that the direct cormection could possibly lead to a collision with a large pipe of the actual plant ... [Pg.167]

In the oil and gas industry, the term abandonment generally refers to the activities undertaken to remove the structures used to sustain oil and gas production after the production is ceased. The structures range from a few tonnes of steel on the seabed to a complete platform constructed from around 30000 tonnes of steel framework. The task of removal requires extremely detailed and careful planning as well as substantial resources. Explosives are very efficient tools for cutting steel underwater and have been the preferred choice of many offshore operators for over 40 years. Also explosives offer the flexibility of a single controlled cut or multiple simultaneous cuts for remote and safe toppling of very large structures [129]. [Pg.64]

A Local Authority said that he would strongly oppose planning permission for construction of a WATER reservoir in this area unless the most stringent precautions were followed. Open ponds were certainly not acceptable. What would prevent people falling in them What would prevent the contents from leaking out At the very least the WATER would have to be contained in a steel pressure vessel surrounded by a leak-proof concrete wall. [Pg.192]

The Cementation Co, which was already working on the ventilation shafts for the main area, was also contracted to drive two new inclined access shafts in the temporary districts. Construction of the perimeter walls was well in hand by the start of the new year, but as debris was removed from the north-west comer of K District a number of serious roof collapses occurred, so all further work was abandoned in that area, resulting in the loss of 20% of the planned storage capacity. A limited amount of steel-work was put in place to support the roof, but as K area was classified as only temporary storage extensive use was made of creosoted wooden props, over 520 of which were erected. By March heavy construction in K area was complete and the slope shaft lined with concrete. It was decided to leave the floor with a consolidated Bath... [Pg.199]

Reference Markers. Plant layout on the site requires a starting or reference point after the exact location of the property has been determined by permanent property markers already established or by independent survey of a local surveying firm. Markers are usually large-diameter capped steel pipe set in concrete, located outside the construction area, so that directional and elevation data can be taken relative to these permanent posts. One marker is called the zero corner point and all measurements start from there. Plant north and its relation to true north are next set up so that master plot plans can be oriented to the plant site and surveying stakes located in the working area. [Pg.295]

The history of the targeted planning of chemical plants is only about 100 years old [Kratz 1990, Sattler 2000], The construction of a complete new chemical plant was planned on the drawing board for the first time in 1898 by Duisberg. Prior to this, one simply built what one needed at the moment, and hence after a short time chemical plants developed a chaotic appearance. Today, long before a construction site is developed, concrete is poured, or steel is delivered, a plant already exists as a pile of paper or computer drives. [Pg.307]

Steel production also failed to meet the Four Year Plan s requirements. A second Karinhall revision of 1 January 1939 called for the production of 4.5 million metric tons of steel by the end of 1943. With this amount of steel Germany expected to expand existing plants and construct new plants to increase synthetic fuel production from 3.7 million metric tons in 1938 to 11 million metric tons per year by 1944. According to the US Strategic Bombing Survey s postwar report the required 4.5 million metric tons of steel equaled the amount necessary to build a fleet 3.5 times the size of the British navy that existed on 1 January 1940 [18]. [Pg.12]

Thermocouples. In order to obtain some information on the temper atures of the thermal and biological shields, thermocouples will be embedded at 47 points throughout the reactor structure. The locations of these 47 points are given in Table 2.8,A. As a factor of safety, two thermocouples will be attached to the steel or embedded in the concrete at these points. It should be noted that the locations given in Table 2.8.A are recommended best points, but construction difficulties may cause a shift in some of these locations. As built drawings should be consulted for final placement data. It is currently planned to bring out the thermocouple leads in small conduits to Junction boxes on the north and east faces of the reactor structure. [Pg.86]
