Spring-loaded pressure relief valve

This type PRV is relied on a spring to close or open its orifice. During normal operation, its spring will hold down the relief valve disk at its orifice to avoid process fluid leaving the system, but when the pressure of the equipmenhpiping reaches PRV s set pressure, its spring will be compressed to open the disk ai its orifice and relieving the process fluid. [Pg.143]

Design of spring-loaded pressure-relief valves is supported by a well-established mechanical engineering science base. There are two main types of safety valves used today the relief valve and the pop valve. Pressure relief valves play an important role in LNG piping systems. Any section of LNG piping that can trap LNG must have a pressure relief valve to prevent failure of that section of pipe should all the LNG vaporize. These pressure relief valves are similar to those used on LNG storage tanks.
