Spelling out

The bimetallic mechanism is illustrated in Fig. 7.13b the bimetallic active center is the distinguishing feature of this mechanism. The precise distribution of halides and alkyls is not spelled out because of the exchanges described by reaction (7.Q). An alkyl bridge is assumed based on observations of other organometallic compounds. The pi coordination of the olefin with the titanium is followed by insertion of the monomer into the bridge to propagate the reaction. 

The operational conditions under which the experiment is to be conducted and the manner ia which each of the factors is varied must be clearly spelled out. 

It is usually advisable to spell out the units when the acronym is used, since the units are arbitrary. 

The roles and responsibilities of the toller and their client are spelled out in the contract. For example, some of the toller s responsibilities may be ... 

The lines of communication that were established in the toller selection phase can be formalized in the contract stage. The contract should spell out the persons to contact and under which circumstances they must be contacted. Detailed and continuing exchange of information is necessary in order to optimize the administration and performance of the tolling contract. The parties may want to come to agreement and include the following in the contract or supporting documentation to enhance communication ... 

Some variants of best practicable means are spelled out in the U.S. Clean Air Act of 1977. One is the requirement that best available control technology (BACT) for a specific pollutant be employed on new "major sources" that are to be located in an area that has attained the National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) for that pollutant. BACT is also required for pollutants for which there is no NAAQS [e.g., total reduced sulfur (TRS), for which emission limits are specified by a Federal New Source Performance Standard (NSPS)]. BACT must be at least as stringent as NSPS but is determined on a case-by-case basis. 

Firewater Systems. These systems are best laid out by contractors or other specialists. National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) rules will spell out required coverage, typical pump size, and other standard items. A small jockey pump will maintain system pressure at all times. 

So by now it should be clear that what the process of clarification is all about is removing suspended solids from water. Important concepts that we have eluded to, but maybe not spelled out so clearly up to now are ... 

Safety plans must make clear site-specific responsibilities and lines of authority. Examples should be used in the plan so that it clearly spells out what must take place in a variety of situations. An organizational chart should become part of any larger site s plan. The dotted line and solid line responsibilities give on-site personnel a clear indication of what is expected of them, and to whom they should report unsafe or unhealthy situations. 

For adsorbates out of local equilibrium, an analytic approach to the kinetic lattice gas model is a powerful theoretical tool by which, in addition to numerical results, explicit formulas can be obtained to elucidate the underlying physics. This allows one to extract simplified pictures of and approximations to complicated processes, as shown above with precursor-mediated adsorption as an example. This task of theory is increasingly overlooked with the trend to using cheaper computer power for numerical simulations. Unfortunately, many of the simulations of adsorbate kinetics are based on unnecessarily oversimplified assumptions (for example, constant sticking coefficients, constant prefactors etc.) which rarely are spelled out because the physics has been introduced in terms of a set of computational instructions rather than formulating the theory rigorously, e.g., based on a master equation. 

Various isolation methods are then spelled out in U.S. Patent 3,679,801. 

A different type of exact number arises in certain calculations. Suppose you are asked to determine the amount of heat evolved when one kilogram of coal burns. The implication is that because one is spelled out, exactly one kilogram of coal bums. The uncertainty in the answer should be independent of the amount of coaL... 

A number that is spelled out (one, two,...) does not affect the number of significant figures. 

This idea is by no means unknown to philosophers. The same idea is at the heart of Whewell s noti on of consilience, for example and it was explicitly spelled out by Moritz Schlick ... 

Abbreviations—important pharmacologic and general medical abbreviations die nurse needs to know when caring for die patient undergoing drug therapy are spelled out in die back of die text. 

Most commands can be used in three ways, as shown here. When the full term is spelled out (SEARCH), the system assumes an unsophisticated user, and gives more help. If the command is S, the system assumes the user is knowledegable about the system. 

These programs have a logical role in each of the priority areas spelled out in this report, and increased support from NSF is vital to the goal of expanding chemical engineering into new areas. The committee proposes the following new initiatives for the Foundation. 

ELECTRODEjcls Fig. 4.24 The operation of an ion-specific electrode with a slope of 59.16 mV per decade for mono-valent ions (29.58 mV/dec for di-valent ions) is simulated under the assumption that a digital volt meter with a resolution of, say, 0.1 mV is used. The sample volume and the concentration of the metered titration solution are known. Normally, one would add a few milliliters of the concentrated titration solution and do the calculation spelled out in lines 140-150 in Table 4.22 here, because the sample concentration is known, the result can be normalized to it. The operation of short-cuts (volume correction), unknowns (volume bias, deviation of true slope from theoretical), and equipment shortcomings (digitization) can be studied. 

Animal behavior has been dehned by Odnm (1971) as the overt action an organism takes to adjnst to its environment so as to ensure its survival. A simpler definition is the dynamic interaction of an animal with its enviromnent (D Mello 1992). Another, more elaborate, one is, the outward expression of the net interaction between the sensory, motor arousal, and integrative components of the central and peripheral nervons systems (Norton 1977). The last dehnition spells out the important point that behavior represents the integrated function of the nervous system. Accordingly, disruption of the nervous system by neurotoxic chemicals may be expected to cause changes in behavior (see Klaasen 1996, pp. 466-467). 

A large organization will have its ovm in-house janitors. For smaller facilities, janitorial services will usually be taken care of by a contractor. The exact work to be done by such a contractor should be spelled out in writing, where no details must be left out. Unfortunately, the degree of cleanliness is hard to define in exact terms.
