FET type humidity sensor. Although sensors based on a field-effect transistor (FET) appear to hold promise as a small and low-cost intelligent sensor, relatively few people have been engaged in the research on FET type sensors in Japan. In this respect, it is remarkable that a FET type humidity sensor was developed recently by Hijikigawa of Sharp Corp (9). The sensor is also worth notice as a new type of humidity sensor, which utilizes changes in electric capacitance of humidity sensitive membrane interposed between double gate electrodes. [Pg.49]

Unless identical display modes are adopted in both T- and R-modes, otherwise there are always some discrepancies between their voltage dependent transmittance and reflectance curves. This is the reason that none of the abovementioned transflective mixed-mode LCDs has perfectly matched voltage dependent transmittance and reflectance curves. Different from the mixed display modes employed between transmission and reflection regions as described above. Sharp Corp. also introduced the dual-cell-gap concept for transflective LCDs [57]. [Pg.312]

Because the reflection beam passes through the color filter (CF) twice, while the transmission beam only passes once, generally speaking, the transflective LCD experiences an unbalanced color between the T- and R-modes. To solve the color imbalance problem, different CF approaches have been developed. Sharp Corp. proposed a multi-thickness color filter... [Pg.314]

By the way, early LCD TVs used a high haze surface treatment with a haze value of 40 %. At that time, those films were made mainly by sputtering or vapor deposition of antireflective coatings, but the deposition of large areas is difficult and very expensive, and their use for televisions was impossible. Therefore, the real contrast in a bright room had been a problem, but in order to minimize the reflection of the surface, the design concept similar to the module for office automation (OA) had been incorporated. So, in 1999 Sharp Corp. announced low-reflection black TFT for medium-sized LCD modules, which combined LR and AG properties and had a haze value of 20 % or less. As the leader of the production unit, I... [Pg.108]

Presently, the availability of solar-grade silicon is limited, and its cost is over 30/kg and rising. The largest supplier of polycrystalline silicon (Hemlock Semiconductor Corp.) is building new production facilities, and users such as Sharp Corporation and BP Solar are working on designing thinner panels requiring less silicon. [Pg.88]

Several pharmaceutical companies (Merck, Sharp and Dohme Smith, Kline and French and Schering Corp.) have applied the IBM 101 electronic statistical machine to literature searching (8, p. 232 41 49, p. 240). The number of columns which may be searched simultaneously depends upon the number of punches appearing in a single column, but as many as 60 columns may be examined at one pass of the cards. The 101 is a versatile machine which cuts down the searching time as compared with the simple sorter. A similar machine called ILAS was developed for searching coded steroid structures (49, p. 447) in the U. S. Patent OflBce. [Pg.278]

The fact that useful spectra can be obtained from polymers in various forms, from fibers which cannot be studied by transmission techniques, from other intractable materials, from aqueous solutions, etc., should make this technique useful in many disciplines. The use of ATR for the study of the chemistry of surfaces should be further explored in biochemical applications, for example, deposition of monolayers from solution (see, for example, Sharpe, 1961, 1965). The ATR technique has been used for analysis of bacterial cultures (Johnson, 1966) and in forensic science (Denton, 1965). It has also been applied to a great variety of substances molecular species present at electrode interfaces (Hansen et al., 1966 Mark and Pons, 1966) carbohydrates (Parker and Ans, 1966) a single crystal of pentaerythritol (Tsuji et al., 1970) cosmetics on the skin (Wilks Scientific Corp., 1966) pesticidal traces (Hermann, 1965a) water-alcohol mixtures (Malone and Flournoy, 1965) nitrate ion (Wilhite and Ellis, 1963) leather (Pettit and Carter, 1964) and blood spectra from within the human circulatory system (Kapany and Silbertrust, 1964)l The last-mentioned application requires special equipment. [Pg.72]

Butadiene was first prepared in 1863, and its conjugated structure was proposed in 1886 (1,2). However, the ability of butadiene to polymerize was not recognized until almost 50 years later when, in 1909, a rubbery polymer was first reported as being prepared from butadiene via thermal polymerization (3). Shortly thereafter, the more controlled poljnnerization of butadiene initiated by sodium metal was reported in 1911 (4). During this time period, a sharp rise in natural rubber prices prompted the Bayer Corp. to develop methyl rubber from... [Pg.859]
