Double gate

FET type humidity sensor. Although sensors based on a field-effect transistor (FET) appear to hold promise as a small and low-cost intelligent sensor, relatively few people have been engaged in the research on FET type sensors in Japan. In this respect, it is remarkable that a FET type humidity sensor was developed recently by Hijikigawa of Sharp Corp (9). The sensor is also worth notice as a new type of humidity sensor, which utilizes changes in electric capacitance of humidity sensitive membrane interposed between double gate electrodes.

Field-effect Transistors Enzyme FETs and immuno FETs (IMFETs) are based on principles similar to those valid in potentiometric membrane biosensors. The enzyme is immobihzed on top of the ion-selective membrane on the gate of the FET. For construction of ENFETs, usually double-gate FETs are used employing one gate as a reference system, covered only with a layer of the immobilization matrix, and allowing for the real-time compensation of pH modulations, temperature, and drift. Most of the results published on weldlines in reinforced plastics were obtained using some sort of a double-gated dog bone shaped tensile bar mold in which the gates are located in the end of the dog bone (e.g. ASTM-D647). With this type of mold, the fibers in the weldline posses a random-in-plane orientation, the plane of orientation being paredlel to the plane of the weldline. There is no evidence that the fibers cross the weldline plane. Away from the weldline, fibers are oriented parallel to flow. With the weldlines formed by flow around an insert, the fibers acquire a parallel-to-flow orientation throughout the entire thickness and...

Figure 3-87. During injection molding, a double gate can cause weld lines, when two melt fronts meet in a cavity, and reduce impact strengths, as well as other properties. Single-gated and double-gated Izod impact-test specimens were molded using different plastics to provide impact-strength comparisons.
