Management sessions

On completion of an audit and before the auditors leave the premises, the management of the site will be briefed as regards the main observations during the audit. Where issues arise, FDA inspectors use Form 483 to present the manufacturer with a list items that may be deemed as non-compliant with the regulations. It is good practice to reviewa project on completion and record the reasons for departure between planned and actual performance. Where lessons can be learned, or opportunities exploited, they should be incorporated into project management guidelines. Some companies hold post project sessions with their contractors to explore better ways of handling particular issues, especially when there is an expectation of additional shared activities. 

Many companies use worker—management teams, suggestion boxes, consultant surveys, suppHer training sessions, and other methods to reduce risk of injuries (see Hazard analysis and risk assessment). The principal regulatory burden falls on wastes and discharges which leave the plant (3,53,54). 

At larger sites, it is sometimes more efficient for two reviewers to interview candidate toller personnel. In general, the senior site manager should be involved in the interview session unless the toller s facility is extremely large with several layers of operations management. It is assumed interviews will include the toller s technical personnel or specialists related to the proposed toll. 

Though occasionally a time consuming exercise, a well-performed PHA can be a source of satisfaction and may be required by the OS HA Process Safety Management Standard or the EPA Risk Management Program Rule. It is important members actively participate and lively interaction is promoted during the sessions. 

This is the simplest and least expensive method. The manager will sit down with the employee and diseuss the JHA. Only obvious hazards are identified in this initial session. These observations are based on the reeolleetions and observations of employees who have performed the job. This information is valuable beeause it relies on the experienee of employees elosely linked to the job. 

An unannounced visit from a major supplier coincided with a group training session, which gave the Plant Manager the opportunity to brief him on the division s work in PSM. 

All group working sessions should be led by someone with a strong background in Quality Management and good facilitation skills. It is important that these individuals have the ability to draw out ideas from the team without imposing their own ideas. These facilitators need not be full-time members of the team, but are called upon when needed. 

A manager (from, for example, the HR department) who knows a lot about mentoring/mentoring schemes and who has either trained before and/or could be effectively trained by a trainer-trainer to conduct a training session - please note that this person might well be the program co-ordinator. 

As you will remember from our conclusions in Chapter 3, virtually all companies that contributed case studies to our book incorporated expectation management into their training sessions. If you want to ensure that your program nms as planned, then keeping with this tradition is of great importance. It is also vital to have sufficient time in the training program for this issue.

Patients with acute hyperkalemia usually require other therapies to manage hyperkalemia until dialysis can be initiated. Patients who present with cardiac abnormalities caused by hyperkalemia should receive calcium gluconate or chloride (1 g intravenously) to reverse the cardiac effects. Temporary measures can be employed to shift extracellular potassium into the intracellular compartment to stabilize cellular membrane effects of excessive serum potassium levels. Such measures include the use of regular insulin (5 to 10 units intravenously) and dextrose (5% to 50% intravenously), or nebulized albuterol (10 to 20 mg). Sodium bicarbonate should not be used to shift extracellular potassium intracellularly in patients with CKD unless severe metabolic acidosis (pH less than 7.2) is present. These measures will decrease serum potassium levels within 30 to 60 minutes after treatment, but potassium must still be removed from the body. Shifting potassium to the intracellular compartment, however, decreases potassium removal by dialysis. Often, multiple dialysis sessions are required to remove potassium that is redistributed from the intracellular space back into the serum. 

Interventions are more effective when they last greater than 10 minutes, involve contact with a professional, provide at least four to seven sessions, and provide nicotine-replacement therapy (NRT). Group and individual counseling is effective, and interventions are more successful when they include social support and training in problem-solving, stress management, and relapse prevention.
