Sealing pressure

Continuous-Flow Stirred-Tank Reactor. In a continuous-flow stirred-tank reactor (CSTR), reactants and products are continuously added and withdrawn. In practice, mechanical or hydrauHc agitation is required to achieve uniform composition and temperature, a choice strongly influenced by process considerations, ie, multiple specialty product requirements and mechanical seal pressure limitations. The CSTR is the idealized opposite of the weU-stirred batch and tubular plug-flow reactors. Analysis of selected combinations of these reactor types can be useful in quantitatively evaluating more complex gas-, Hquid-, and soHd-flow behaviors. [Pg.505]

In biphase systems velocity of the steam is often 10 times the velocity of the liquid. If condensate waves rise and fill a pipe, a seal is formed with the pressure of the steam behind it (Fig. 2). When the seal maximum pressure is such that the gas test must be conducted well below rated discharge pressure, then another test, or substituted test, may be invoked in which the seals are removed. It may require removing the rotor however, with this procedure the joint makeup still remains a problem when the rotor is replaced. However, without the seals, the test described earlier is performed, using the rated discharge pressure rather than the maximum seal pressure. The acceptance test is the same also no leaks should be detected.
