Rolls forming

Conical ends vary from machined forgings to roll-formed tubing, and clamps vary from machined forgings to bands to which sever roll-formed channels are attached at their centers by spot welding. A hinge may be inserted in the band as a substitute for one of the draw bolts. Latches may also be substituted for draw bolts. 

Otner Collectors Tarry particulates and other difficult-to-handle hquids have been collected on a dry, expendable phenol formaldehyde-bonded glass-fiber mat (Goldfield, J. Air Pollut. Control A.SSOC., 20, 466 (1970)] in roll form which is advanced intermittently into a filter frame. Superficial gas velocities are 2.5 to 3.5 m/s (8.2 to 11.5 ft/s), and pressure drop is typically 41 to 46 cm (16 to 18 in) of water. CoUection efficiencies of 99 percent have been obtained on submicrometer particles. Brady [Chem. Eng. Prog., 73(8), 45 (1977)] has discussed a cleanable modification of this approach in which the gas is passed through a reticulated foam filter that is slowly rotated and solvent-cleaned. 

For composite stiffeners, all shapes are builtup from individual layers of material. Of course, some stiffener shapes can be produced by roll forming or pultrusion, for example, and then fastened to panels. Or, the stiffened panel could be made in a single operation involving the placement, usually by hand, of individual laminae of various dimensions in positions such that a builtup structure results. Stiffeners can be fastened to panels by bonding, stitching, or mechanical fastening. 

Paper- or foil-backed mineral wool product fabricated from low-density slabs in which the slats stand upright with the fibers predominantly perpendicular to the major faces. This type of product is used on circular and elliptical ducting, pipes and vessels to give a compression-resistant insulant. Supplied in roll form. 

Fixed ventilation has to be weatherproof to some degree. If it were not, then a simple hole in the wall or roof would be sufficient. The normal form of fixed ventilator is the louver panel. At its simplest, this may be a number of slats of wood mounted at 45-60° in a door or wall opening, and at its most sophisticated an aerodynamically designed two- or three-bank chevron of roll-formed or extruded aluminum (Figure 28.6). 

Specific fabrication temperatures are given by Czarnecki etalJ for various forming processes, including roll forming, hydropressing, joggle and die forming on molybdenum-titanium alloy sheet. 

Microfiber glass fleece mats are typically produced from a blend of 20 - 30 percent glass microfibers <1 //m in diameter, with the balance of the glass fibers thicker (3 - 10 //m) and longer (cf. Fig. 1), on a specialized paper machine (Fou-drinier), since this is the only way of achieving the desired tensile strength without binder. The material is supplied in roll form, even though it is normally not processed into pockets, which are not required due to the absence of free electrolyte. The classification here as a leaf separator should be seen in this sense. 

Flexible polyethylene separators have facilitated a novel cell construction the separator material, supplied in roll form, is wound so that it meanders around electrodes of alternating polarity (Fig. 23), requiring ribs in the cross-machine direction such profiles are available commercially [60],... 

For the ultimate protection from chemicals, certain work areas may be covered with thin sheets of self-adhering Teflon, available in roll form. One version is sandwiched with a thin sheet of aluminum foil, which increases heat resistance by conducting heat away from high temperature spots. 

Hose may be hand built using a three roll wrapping machine. The centres of the three rolls form an equilateral triangle. The hose during construction sits on the junction between the two lower rollers and pressure is exerted to consolidate the composite by the upper movable roller. An extruded inner liner, after fitting to a solid inner mandrel, is placed into the machine between the rollers and then the various layers of rubber coated or resorcinol-formaldehyde-latex treated, fabric are applied in a spiral form, with overlap. Once the reinforcement layers have been added the cover rubber is applied and a cloth, usually nylon, is spirally wrapped around the constructed hose using the roller system. The hose is now ready for vulcanisation.

To produce amorphous anhydrous borax, the molten borax is run between two large water-cooled rolls, forming sheets about 1.6 mm thick, which are then crushed and screened to the desired particle size. Because the borax is cooled rapidly by the rolls, it remains largely amorphous, though it may contain some crystalline anhydrous borax. 

Plastic Flooring. Plastic flooring is marketed either as tile or sheet flooring. Tile is supplied as pieces usually 30.5 x 30.5 cm with a thickness of 0.16—0.32 cm and is usually homogeneous in composition. Sheet flooring, on the other hand, is produced in roll form 1.8, 2.7,3.7 and 4.6 m wide (2- and 4-m in Europe), and generally consists of a plastic upper component on a fibrous backing. 

In setting up the three-roll calender for topping one side of the fabric even surface speeds of rolls are used for the pair of rolls forming the fabric nip and a friction ratio of 3 2 between those forming the rubber nip. 

The finish on the surfaces of the calender rolls is very important they may be highly polished or matt, and these surfaces affect behaviour during processing as well as the appearance of film or sheet produced. Unless it is grossly over-lubricated the hot material will adhere to the hotter of two similar rolls forming a nip, or to the roll running faster—except that irrespective of differences in roll speed or temperature there is a preference to adhere to a matt rather than a polished surface. 

Paper base is supplied in roll form and together these units provide the coater with a continuous feed at the speed and tension required. 

Standards for vinyl and other wallcoverings in roll form are given in European Standards EN 233 to EN 235 1989, published also as British Standard 1248 Parts 1 to 3 1990. 

Whole soybean may be fed to gestating swine (ground form) and to mature ruminants (whole or rolled form). However, feeding whole soybeans to all other livestock will result in reduced performance and is not recommended. Extruded soybeans may be fed to all livestock, especially swine and poultry. Extmded soybeans fed to lactating dairy cattle increase by-pass protein but most often will reduce butterfat. Roasted soybeans may be fed to aU livestock, especially mature ruminants. Roasted soybeans fed to lactating dairy cattle will increase by-pass protein and slightly increase butterfat. 

For single-point recorders all of these record forms are employed, but with one or two exceptions multiple-point recorders use record paper in the roll form. Upon circular charts the lines of equal temperature arc represented by concentric circles and lines of equal time by arcs following the course of the galvanometer needle (see Fig. 31).
