Twenty-nine of 31 successful problem-solving examples were described as open and free from outside influences that might have created road blocks . They involved very open brainstorming , open and honest communication , and open-mindedness to new ideas of stakeholders. Product engineers had authority to ask for help and direct control over design or process changes if needed . 

Be honest, frank, and open. In communicating risk information, trust and credibility are your most precious assets. 

Whether life sciences informatics software ultimately becomes a commodity, with the commercial rewards for software companies being in packaging, integration, support, and deployment (in a similar way to the Linux community), and what impact the open source movement will have. In bioinformatics and chemoinformatics, open source, free software, and shareware are increasing in quantity, and it is becoming common for smaller software companies at least to release reduced-functionality versions of their software into the public domain at no cost.

By their very definition, the sky sciences are an open area. It was international partnerships within the European astrophysical community that opened the way to economic and political unification. Indeed, Europe began in the sky, with the foundation of the European Southern Observatory (ESO) and the European Space Agency (ESA), and today, astrophysical conferences have become planetary events. We can only rejoice ...

These principles of collaboration are especially important in studies involving pediatric psychopharmacology, in part because the misunderstanding of pediatric mental illnesses and the concerns about medications, have created a climate of distrust and confusion. Direct and open communication between stakeholders and researchers is necessary to accomplish the goals of creating an ethical and valid scientific base.
