Right brain activity

Kumari et al, (2003) 12 2 mg nicotine, subcutaneously N-Back Nicotine improved accuracy in all N-back conditions and reduced response times during the more demanding conditions of the task. Irrespective of drug condition, frontal and parietal regions were activated with increasing memory load. Nicotine, however, increased brain activation in the anterior cingulate (0-back, 1-back, 2-back), superior frontal (1-back, 2-back), and left superior parietal cortex (1-back, 2-back, 3-back), in the 3-back condition, nicotine reduced activation in the right superior parietal cortex. [Pg.135]

Nicotine modulated alertness-brain related activity in several brain regions, but did not significantly influence response times. In the visual condition, nicotine decreased alertness-brain activity in the right lateral posterior superior temporal gyrus. In the auditory modality, effects of nicotine were trial-specific decreased activation in frontal and occipitoparietal regions in warned trials and increased activation in unwarned trials. [Pg.136]

My cryonicist friends refuse to give up hope that memories still reside in the brain cell interconnections and chemistry, much of which can be preserved. Maybe they are right. After all, far back in the 1950s, hamster brains were partially frozen and revived by British researcher Audrey Smith. If hamster brains can function after being frozen, why can t ours In the 1960s, Japanese researcher Isamu Suda froze cat brains for a month and then thawed them. Some brain activity persisted. ... [Pg.113]

It is obvious that the manipulated brain of the masses, filled from birth with emotional misbeliefs, illusions, misinterpretations, myths, fantasies, motivates - given the right circumstances - irrational activities. In peaceful periods of the community rational brain activity is dominant and the irrational, emotional chaos is suppressed. There are specially organized occasions for the eruption of the volcano (concerts, sport-events, proper political party meetings, etc.). But in emotionally supersensitive, trying periods of the community (riots, revolutions, wars) the irrational brain becomes dominant. The immense literature that describes the history of mankind is, as a matter of fact, an exact description of the consequences of traditional manipulation of the human brain. [Pg.134]

Eigure 12 shows an example of EEG data with neutral and positive affective reflection. The left figures indicate the brain activity of natural affect, while the right figures show the brain activity of positive affect. The criterion of inducing positive affect is brain activity in the theta band of the frontal lobe. [Pg.246]

We estimate multifractal for the NIRS data of Oxy-Hb, DeOxy-Hb and Total-Hb concentrations collected from two ehaimels. Two trails of imagery tasks are done on both leflt-and right-arrow. The result of estimation of multifractal in Figure 2 is the relation of r( ) versus q and of D h) versus h of NIRS data It is clear that T q) is nonlinear with respect to for all the NIRS data, i.e., of Oxy-Hb, DeOxy-Hb and Total-Hb concentrations from both channels. In other words, NIRS data measured during brain activity is multifractal. In addition, from the plot of D h) versus/ , the local Hurst exponent / is in the range from 0 to 0.4 with the maximum around 0.1 in all the trials. This means that NIRS data is anti-correlated signals. [Pg.82]

This fascinating book provides a vital repertoire of non-verbal images - to help activate the right side of any manager s brain. [Pg.443]

A young scientist said, I have never seen a complex scientific area such as industrial ventilation, where so little scientific research and brain power has been applied. This is one of the major reasons activities in the industrial ventilation field at the global level were started. The young scientist was right. The challenges faced by designers and practitioners in the industrial ventilation field, compared to comfort ventilation, are much more complex. In industrial ventilation, it is essential to have an in-depth knowledge of modern computational fluid dynamics (CFD), three-dimensional heat flow, complex fluid flows, steady state and transient conditions, operator issues, contaminants inside and outside the facility, etc. [Pg.1]

While there are some reports of increased NMDA and non-NMDA receptor number in various cortical regions of schizophrenics including the prefrontal cortex, there are also indications of impaired glutamate innervation, such as reduction in its neuronal uptake sites (Ishimaru, Kurumaji and Torn 1994). Also it has been found that levels of the mRNA for the NRI subunit of the NMDA receptor in the hippocampus and its D-aspartate binding sites in the temporal cortex are both reduced more on the left than right side in schizophrenic brain. This is another indication of greater malfunction on the left side of the brain and the possibility that some schizophrenic symptoms arise from an imbalance between cross-cortical activity. [Pg.358]
