DeioniZa.tlon, The removal of cations and anions from water and replacement of them with hydrogen and hydroxide ions is called deionization. The completeness of the ionic removal is dependent on resin selection, design of the system, operating conditions, and the quaUty of treated water required. Adhesives. Contact adhesives are blends of mbber, phenoHc resin, and additives suppHed in solvent or aqueous dispersion form they are typically appHed to both surfaces to be joined (80). Evaporation of the solvent leaves an adhesive film that forms a strong, peel-resistant bond. Contact adhesives are used widely in the furniture and constmction industries and also in the automotive and footwear industries. The phenoHc resins promote adhesion and act as tackifiers, usually at a concentration of 20—40%. In solvent-based contact adhesives, neoprene is preferred, whereas nitrile is used in specialty appHcations. Ultrasonic nebulizers have also been employed in continuous flow systems as interfaces between sample preparation steps in the analytical process and detection by virtue of their suitability for operating in a continuous mode. One special example is the sequential determination of As(lll) and As(V) in water by coupling a preconcentration system to an ICP-AES instrument equipped with a USN. For this purpose, two columns packed with two different resins selective for each arsenic species were connected via a 16-port valve in order to concentrate them for their subsequent sequential elution to the spectrometer [53]. [Pg.262]
