Synthesized resins

Various adsorption parameters for the effective removal of Pb + and ions by using new synthesized resin as an adsorbent from aqueous solutions were studied and optimized. Time-dependent behavior of Pb + and ions adsorption was measured by varying the equilibrium time between in the range of 30-300 min. The percentage adsorption of Pb + plotted in Fig. 26.2 as a function of contact time... [Pg.257]

The author expresses appreciation to the following Forest Products Laboratory employees for their help in this study Martin F. Wesolowski, Chemist, for NMR spectroscopic analyses Virgil H. Schwandt, Chemist, for the HPLC analyses and Wesley L. Rork, Physical Science Technician, for synthesizing resins and evaluating their bond strengths. [Pg.382]

Mesoporous melamine-formaldehyde and phenolic-formaldehyde resins were synthesized in the process of polymerization in the presence of fumed silica as an inorganic template. The surface and structural characteristics of the obtained sorbents were investigated using XPS technique and sorption from gas phase. The parameters characterizing porous structure of the synthesized resins in a dry state were determined from nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms. The sorption processes of benzene and water vapor accompanied by simultaneous swelling of both polymers were also studied. [Pg.491]

Sulfur analogs of some of the described hydroxy linkers and resins (Figure 15.2) have been employed to synthesize resin-bound thioesters that can then be cleaved with alcohols, amines and organometallic reagents to furnish esters, amides, ketones, aldehydes and alcohols [50]. Secondary amines react sluggishly with linker 9 and, therefore, more reactive thioester-linker derivatives were developed, such as 17 and 18. Yields for a hindered amine such as Pro-OMe were in the order of 60-70%. Thiol-containing PS-DVB resin 7 has been used for the obtention of P-hydroxyacids by hydrolysis with 0.2 M NaOH in aqueous dioxane [51],... [Pg.422]

Pande et al. successfully synthesized resin-bound spherical CuO nanocomposite (Figure 2.9) following a step-wise manner (Scheme 2.11). In the first step, 1 g fresh cation exchange resin bead (R H ) was suspended in 5mL of water and kept... [Pg.46]

With advance in our knowledge of the physical chemistry of bile acids and lipids, it may be possible to synthesize resins with still greater selectivity in vivo than cholestyramine, should this method prove to be an effective longterm therapeutic measure. The administration of cholestyramine to guinea pigs induces cholelithiasis (62) and isolated incidents of adverse affects have been reported in the clinical literature following long-term treatment with the resin (63). [Pg.205]

The structure of the synthesized resins was ascertained by H-NMR spectroscopy and the content of the trans isomer was determined from the NMR spectra according to the method of Curtis using the areas of the signals due to fumarate at about 6.9 ppm and maleate at about 6.4 ppm. It was found that the isomerization of maleate bonds did not occm without piperidine [10]. Moreover, unsaturated epoxymaleate resins were significantly less reactive than the epoxyfumarate resins. The properties before curing and of the crosslinked resins obtained in one- and two-step procedures are similar (Table 4), although the resins prepared in one-step synthesis were character-... [Pg.9]

A molar ratio of pentaerythritol to acetic anhydride from 1 1.37 to 1 3.5 and a temperature in the range of 100-150 °C were found to be the best reaction conditions for the synthesis of pentaerythritol diacetate. UP resins based on acetylated derivatives of pentaerythritol diacetate were obtained in the presence of a small amount of o-xylene at 140-150 °C with p-toluenesulfonic acid as the catalyst, under dry conditions. It was found that pentaerythritol diacetate also contained free pentaerythritol and pentaerythritol monoacetate, which caused a premature crossUnking of the synthesized resin. Thus, ethylene glycol and diethylene glycol were used in the synthesis of the UPR together with pentaerythritol diacetate. [Pg.17]

Polymer-supported ILs offer many advantages, including easy handling and recov-erabUity in the separation of REEs. Polystyrene-based resins, synthesized resins, and some abundant natural polymers have been the most common supports of P-SILs used in separation. But beyond that, the supporting methods for the... [Pg.107]

In the early 1990s, combinatorial chemistry was a highly speculative and competitive arena. It is now beyond the proof of concept stage, and some people estimate that 50% of synthetic medicinal chemistry will be combinatorial by the year 2002. The interest in this field has been such that whole industries have grown up around it, for example, in synthesizers, resins, and special conferences and journals. It has also led to many research projects in polymer chemistry, in newer analytical chemistry techniques, and in computational chemistry. It is a field in which a chapter in an encyclopedia is, unfortunately, likely to become outdated very quickly. [Pg.416]
